In English-speaking countries, there are many words about etiquette. For example, courtesy means courteous behavior and good manners; protocol is a rule which guides how an activity performed, especially in foreign affairs such as the contract of jaw crusher trade; Rite is an established, ceremonious, usually religious act. All these words are from the same French word “etiquette”. Etiquette is the rules and principles that people shall observe in the social exchange activities. And today, etiquette has become the reflection of a country’s politics, economy, and culture. It also includes the principles and morals that people have to obey in their daily life.
Webster defines etiquette as “the forms, manners, and ceremonies established by convention as acceptable or required in social relations, in a profession, or in official life.” Chancy and Martin (2002, 150) point out “etiquette refers to manners and behavior considered acceptable in social and business situations.” In distinguishing protocol and etiquette, Nan Leaptrott (1996, 24) says, “Protocol is what to do in a given situation. Etiquette is how to do it—and how to do it gracefully.”
