The book says the start is the ordinary wakefulness, then it goes on to the Relaxed wakefulness, the stage after that is the first actual stage of sleep, following is the second stage of sleep, the last stages of sleep stage three and four, and finally the stage closest to a person being fully awake the REM part of the Sleep cycle. In the beginning before bed there is that time of which a person is getting ready for bed which the ordinary wakefulness which is shown in Inside Out when Riley requests to be told goodnight.
