The Sniper Conflict Essay
One conflict that gets resolved in Liam O’Flaherty’s “The Sniper” is the struggle of surviving in war, and the resolution of this conflict leads to the theme that war obliviates you from the one’s you love most. The short story starts with the sniper being put in a dangerous position, where staying alive is a challenge. As a result of the panicking situation, the conflict is resolved when he kills his biggest threat, the other sniper. Later on O’Flaherty uses “Then the sniper turned over the dead body and looked into his brother’s face” (2002, page 10) to suggest to the reader a possible theme. This quote informs us that even though the sniper was able to kill his victim, he was oblivious to who he was killing, which brings us to our theme.
In conclusion, the resolution that occurred in “The Sniper,” after the rivalry between gunmen, advanced the story along to an important lesson learned which is the realization that war can blind you from people you love.
