Taking place in Africa, 1922, Lord Frederick Lugard, who was the first British governor-general of the colony in Nigeria, talked about how the new practices brought into Africa were good for the people. Lord believed there was an end to the misery of slave-trade and inter tribal war. He also thought it was good that natives were now being educated in academics and industrialization. For years, different tribes would take part in wars that would have many killed, but now the bloodshed that took place was over. Antananarivo, Madagascar was where an unknown photographer took a picture of what appears to be a group of men working in a hospital laboratory in 1930. This image came after the French began establishing microbiology labs in their African territories under their control, also known as colonies. This photographer was a primary source who witnessed the developing work being done in these hospitals established by the French. This image proves that there were positive social effects caused by European imperialism in Africa because it shows how people in and from the colonies were now having the opportunity to take part in hospital related research work. The new methods of business made the economy in Africa easier to understand and brought in more people to take part in having money go around, which improved the economy in Africa. The new educational opportunities for residents in Africa helped end the slave-trade and brought in more residents of Africa into hospital research that would benefit their academic careers. The effects of European imperialism in African countries are what shape how a lot of the nations around the world are set up the way they are seen
