Racism is very much still alive today and can hinder certain races from upholding employment, receiving healthcare and possibly financial situations. “Though not all inequality can be attributed to racism, our nation’s history reveals how particular groups have been singled out and subject to unfair treatment” (Leon- Guerrero). A recent study done on traffic stops in New York City on African Americans and Latinos were 80% of their stops, and 85% of those stop those subjects were frisked and merely only an 8% of white people were stopped. Racism is a very broad topic. It covers more than just the color of skin, but an expanse of society that includes culture, morals and power. Since 2011 the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has received over 99,000 claims on discrimination, and only 2.8% is color discrimination. I tried to find the best concepts that were relevant to racism, the first one would be social justice. The closest definition is a “Perfect Society”, although there is no single definition to this concept, but rather differs depending on one’s “ideology, discipline and experience” (What Feagin 2002) (Leo-Guerrero). Another concept would be Social Innovation; social innovation is a part of social action to address some social problems. This may take form of policy or a program, social innovation works along with social policy, “social policy is the enactment of a course of action through a formal law or program” (Leo-Guerrero).
