The first poem is the “The Song of the Smoke” by W.E.B. DU Bois this poem is about a Smoke King who repeatedly calls himself black in the poem indicating that he is representing and talking about the African American Community. The poem than goes on about the Smoke King talking about he represents more than one African American sorrows and pain and also talks about how African Americans are looked down on by the Caucasia and how African Americans struggle for civil rights.
The second poem is called “Democracy” by Langston Hughes this poem talks about the speaker talking about democracy never coming through "compromise and fear." The speaker than talks about how he has as much a right to own the land
