From the following song we can generally said that the most significance from this song is to teach us not or even never to give up our dream what ever it takes we must try to reach it. If we see the significance of the song from the movie, there’s a lot of scene in the movie lead us to this song. First is Captain von Trapp’s dream to climb the mountain for searching a new life, he refuse to be a part of Nazi’s ARMY (NAVY) and climb the mountain with his family at the end of the movie scene.
This song is pointed to Maria when she ran from von Trapp’s house back to the Abbess house. Maria confused and she try to find the answer about the two choices, first to serve her god and give up her love and the second is to choose the man that she love and broke her promise to serve her god. At this time of doubt, Mother Abbess said to Maria that this world is created not to avoid our problem, we must face the destiny no matter what it takes and then Mother Abbess sing the song to encourage Maria to find her love.

2. Why does the screen-writer depict Baroness Schreider as a rival instead of an enemy or a true antagonist for Maria?

    The song starts out with a strang questioning of reality: “Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? Caught in a landslide, No escape from reality, Open your eyes, look up to the skies and see”. They first two lines are rhetorical questions. They help establish the state of mind needed in order to continue with the song. The third line is a metaphor. It means everything is crashing down on him, and he cannot escape it. It seems to conclude that he is caught between a dream and awakening.     Many similar ideas found in this song are also found in the book Fahrenheit 451, and in the short story, “Harrison Bergeron,” that we read in class. Each of these texts share the same idea of being revealed to something, and wanting to pursue it. In Fahrenheit 451 Guy Montag discovers the amazing thoughts and ideas in books that him and his society were deprived of. He does everything he can to fight for the right to have books. Though he did not know much about them he still does not give up until he succeeds. In the short story, “Harrison Bergeron,” they know nothing other than being drained down by weights and having their thought interrupted by government receivers. They cannot think for themselves nor can they do anything themselves. One boy Harrison, decides to go against the government he gets arrested but still fights, though he did not win in the end his brightness, and the idea of him being revealed to the truth will make it easier for others to understand. As well as these examples, this song shares similar ideas, considering it was written as a response to Fahrenheit 451.
