Only a relatively small proportion of the electorate had the right to vote, and since nothing changed…the population was forced into apathy or violent opposition to the system.” –Paul Preston; Modern Review
Conclusion
After World War One, long term economic and religious tensions caused the start of the
Spanish Civil War. Political Parties made up of anarchists, and fascists affected not only the economy but also religion. Various groups went against the government to fight for equality, but ended up causing a greater problem, a civil war for Spain. The church was stripped from economic and temporal power, leaving a loss of Spanish identity to the citizens struggling through the issues of property, religion, and tradition. Tension between anticlericalism and Catholicism became noticed, and caused riots and disorder through the country of Spain. The separation of the church and State(religion), combined with the distribution of land for equality(economics) created tension between the common people and the government resulting in Spanish Civil War in 1936.
