Living in America means dealing with a great deal of diversity. There are elderly people in America and all over the world who share different backgrounds. Many people share different cultures, but are all brought together by the same objectives, to create a better life, and fulfill dreams. Stereotypes are used to categorize a group of people by widely believing mental pictures that people usually exaggerated on the truths. In today’s society, people will discriminate based on the color he/she is, their national origin or their gender and their economic status. An elderly home is somewhere to take parents that are in need of help. When living in an elderly home, many new people are met, daily activities are done, and the proper medicine he/she may need is given. Another thing that is very good about living in an elderly home, is being monitored 24 hours a day. Also, one may receive different types of therapy like physical strength, speech therapy, and psychologist. Living in elderly home is a place where one can go and get help that can’t be done at home by themselves. When living in an elderly home many different kinds of patients can be seen. Elderly homes are filled with people that can no longer take care of themselves or whose families can no longer take care of them. According to Judy Gilbert she describes living in a nursing home as, “ A place where people would take care of me. They would feed me, take me to the bathroom, and play card games with me”. This shows that Judy Gilbert really likes how the nursing home is and how there are many things he can do and that there are many staff members out there that will help him when he is in need of help. Something that residents over exaggerate about is call lights ringing and takes forever before a nurse comes in. Another thing is that most residents complain about how nasty the food taste but it depends on how they can chew their food. Another thing that some patients complain about is that staff members will rush through the care needed and do not get enough requested medication. Some residents might complain that they never see a doctor and the staff are to rough with them.
