The Story A Rupee Earned By I F Bulatkin
During English class, I read a story called “ A Rupee earned” by I.F Bulatkin. When I was reading this story, the experience made me feel like I am the son in the story. In the story, the son is a very lazy person which never done the work before and doesn’t know the value of hard earned money. He was told by his father if he can earn one rupee, he can take care all of his father's inheritance. He thinks is very easy to earn one rupee. Just like me, I’ve been very lazy throughout my life. If I wanted something, I will just ask my mom for it. One day she said “ If you want something, you have to work for it.” , then I try to do all the work she told me to do, but I keep procrastinating just like the son in the story. This story reminded
me of the lesson my mom taught me, which is the value of hard work and working for what you want. Your parents will not always be here with you, so relying on them is a bad idea. Just like the son in the story, he relies on his father’s wealth for over twenty years, but when his father gets too old, he won’t rely on his father anymore. There's one time when I wanted a gaming console, my mom said I had to work for it, or else I won’t get anything. So she told me that I have to do housework and some other stuff for a month. Af first, I thought a month would go by quickly and it will be easy, but after two weeks, it got repetitive , boring and tiring. I wanted to give up, but if I did, the whole two weeks will be wasted and I won't get what I wanted. After the month, my mom bought what I wanted and I took good care of it because I worked really hard to earn it. So this lesson my mom taught me has positively affected me, because I know stuff doesn’t fall from the sky, you have to work for what you want. Like the son in the story, who procrastinated his whole life until his father gave his a target, which is earning a rupee in a week and he did it, but his father didn’t trust him and threw it in the fire. Since his mom was the one giving him the rupees, but the last one, he ran to the fire and quickly take it out, so now he knows the value of hard work. Like me, I work for month hard and know the value of my gaming console, which is full of hard work. In the part of the story when the father had enough of his son’s laziness and tells him to earn one rupee so he can take care of the father’s inheritance. The son’s mom kept giving him a rupee to tell the father he's earned it. That is not helping him, she is making it worst. The only way to get him to stop being lazy is to give him a target because he can’t rely on his father for long. His father said “ Come on now, little son. If you want to inherit your father’s property, you must take yourself off and really go to work. If you only earn one or two anns a day, in a week you can make a whole rupee.”(Bulatkin 308), so his father wants his son to work and understand the value of hard work. In the end, his son finally gets the lesson and take care of his father’s inheritance.
