Allende began in the workforce as a secretary and then worked her way towards becoming a journalist. After sometime she had worked her way up to becoming a starring journalist in the magazine, Paula. This magazine was debuted in Chile and other parts of South America; Allende was not only a journalist in this magazine but she was also the editor and advice columnist. It was only through her many years as a journalist that she developed her sense of opinions in not only politics, but the way that women were being treated by men in the Chilean societies. There is the perception that women are passive in political issues. It can be concluded that Allende’s past memories of her growing up in a patriarchy filled society had a direct impact on her once young soul. As Allende grew up and moved on from her past roots and became an American citizen she realized that women and feminism is a problem that needs to be surfaced all over the world. Allende has been brave enough to make women empowering stories that draw the attention to the real problems and also the life lessons that need to be learned in order to live a successful life.
