Imagine being a little kid, playing in the ocean. All the waves are crashing and you are jumping over them. Suddenly, you see a large amount of trash, beer bottles, plastic containers, and strings that hold all of it together. You remove the trash from the ocean and put it into a trashcan. By this small task, you have supported the sustainability of the ocean. “Sustainability is ensuring that critical social, economic, and ecological processes are maintained in a way so that both the short and long-term quality of life of human societies and health and diversity of the natural ecosystems are not compromised and the scale of human activities is kept within the natural carrying capacity of the environment.” (Shammin, 2006). To promote the social awareness against ocean pollution a budget would need to be set aside. By the start of 2020 a group called the Ocean Cleanup is starting a plan to start cleaning the most polluted parts of the ocean and work their way down to the less polluted parts. Their idea is to create an artificial coastline that pulls plastics and contaminants to a “v-shaped array”, which is a hose with two arms to guide the trash to the hose. The artificial coastline is just long enough to catch floating trash and still allow fish to travel underneath unharmed. The best part is it is completely controlled by the ocean. There will be no electricity or oil to run the machines, this will also reduce the opportunity of oil spills to happen. It will be easily moved making it even more economically …show more content…
If each person on the planet followed the example of Americans and it ended up in the oceans, and took the estimated amount of time to decompose the entire seventy two percent of the earth that is covered in water would be littered with trash. Even at the rate that the oceans are being polluted at this point they will just continue to get worse. That is until no one on the planet will have clean water. In the future with no clean water so many other horrible things could happen more disease and little to no food
