In to kill a mockingbird, Atticus finch, a defence lawyer for a black man named Tom Robinson explains to his children “In our courts, when it's a white man's word against a black man's, the white man always wins. They're ugly, but those are the facts of life.”- Atticus. Atticus, a white man himself admitting to unjust society he lives in, where no matter what, the white will always prevail over the black. Likewise, in The Tall Man, an aboriginal man named Tiny Bonner is so defeated by the prejudice that and his community face he is quoted saying “ Palm island is a place where the black fella has always grown under the thumb of the white man”. A Palm Island resident quoted saying “it comes down to one thing, there has been nothing done about the black deaths in custody over the years”. The police mistreat the Aboriginal people, Chris Hurley has said to have been violent with towns people. He ran over the foot of Barbara Pilot “he Reversed the vehicle real fast and spun it on my foot”. This is only possible because Chris Hurley has the racial advantage over the Aboriginal residents, they are hegemonies and don’t have a voice when it comes to the white police.
