The Tao's Three Purities
The Tao is the main deity as it is what created the universe and everything in it. Tao gathers to form the Three Purities, the Jade Purity, the Highest Purity and the Supreme Purity. The Supreme Purity was said to be reincarnated as a man named Laozi, also known as Lao Tzu who wort the Tao Te Ching. There is also the Jade Emperor who is consider the highest ruling deity and is only lower to the Three Purities (Deities & Immortals). There are many more deities in the Taoist religion and I could write a paper on just them. The reason that they all became Gods and Goddesses was because they achieved Tao and it is now their duty to teach and redeem others.
