Emily Dickinson’s poem states “I felt a funeral in my brain/And mourners to and fro (Dickinson 1-2).” In those lines of the poem, insanity is in view because they speak about a person that imagines a funeral in their brain. With that being said, that fantasy of holding a funeral in a brain expresses how much sadness it is that is being felt. However, it’s also been said that The Tell-Tale Heart demonstrates insanity more effectively because of the punctuation being used and because of the symptoms that they experience. In the text it says “First I cut off the head then the arms and the legs. I was careful to not let a single drop of blood fall onto the floor. I pulled up three of the boards that formed the floor, and put the pieces of the body there”. That proves that text 2 is more insane than text 1 because it talks about the narrator killing a person and hiding them under the floor in their house.
