Both have equality as their main priority, in the novelette "Anthem" the council believes that men are equal to their brothers. This is also what our country thinks. The color of our skin, language we speak, and beliefs that we believe in, those do not matter as we think that all men are created equal. Though they
think equality of the same idea, they differ in one way. And that is the belief in freedom. The main purpose of America's Declaration of Independence was to explain to foreign nations why the colonies had chosen to separate themselves from Great Britain, we wanted to be ourselves, different from Great Britain's corrupt government. This is not what the world of "Anthem" believes. They believe that since all men are equal, they must function as one. They are basically "'minions" of their council. They do not have the right to make their own decisions for it is punishable if they disobey rules.
In conclusion, they both believe in equality but the world of "Anthem" does not give their people freedom and rights. Not like our society, our leaders give us what we are suppose to have when we are born, and that is natural rights. We have liberty to do what we please in our life and no one can take that right away from us.
