The book warriors don’t cry, I have to write an essay about it and other stuff about this girl named Melba, who is Melba you ask it is a girl that is from 1956 about her going to a school that’s segregated. As well as she's a girl from little rock 9 high school she's black and a bunch of racist people bullied her for being black. Along with the moral of the story is finding strength. The way I could compare it to my life is by pretty much the skate life trying to commit to something. Scary or big that I have never done before like rolling off a box. Moreover rolling up a big ramp and trying to axial stall and then roll back down fakie. Which rolling down fakie is not the problem. It’s the Axil stall that scare's me and what could happen to…
Lastly this book shows how sports can greatly affect people 's lives. People can be affected for the greater, worse, or sports help them find abetted place. Some players careers can go so great, per say Michael Jordan, who is one of the greatest basketball players of all time. Basketball affected his life so positively because he was so good, and because of this his life was great. For some people sports can also tear their life apart, say they have a rough year or an injury, this could get to their head and mess up their career. So many athletes are affected by injuries and after they attempt a comeback might never play as good as they did before because they let it get to their heads. There are also people like Phil Jackson that playing professional basketball wasn 't made for him, so once he learned that he figured out that his thing was coaching, and he became one of the greatest coaches ever because of how much the sport of basketball impacted his life.…
In Warriors Don't Cry, Melba displays optimism through hard times, her strong faith in God, and the strength to fight for what she believes is right. These qualities help her survive her difficult year at Central High School. In 1957, Melba Patillo, turned sixteen. that was also the year her life took a surprising turn. Following the year her life took a surprising turn. Following the 1954, supreme court ruling of Brown vs board of education, Melba was one of the nine students chosen to integrate Little Rock’s Central High School. Throughout the school year, Melba is harassed, taunted, threatened and beaten. But through it all she had her head held high, she refused to back down even when things were at their worst. When Melba Patillo wrote this book she had to go through every gruesome and painful detail all over again. She went through so much and we can read her remarkable story in her own words.…
Paranoia, betrayal, competition; two boys by the names Gene and Phineas fight for the number one spot in their friendship. Yet there a slight plot twist, this is all an illusion in Gene’s mind. There is not really any competition, nor any paranoia in their friendship; only in Gene’s perspective. In the intriguing novel A Separate Peace by John Knowles, Gene’s ulterior motives disrupt the healthy friendship both he and Phineas contain. This type of mind shows a difference between Gene’s and Phineas’s character. Even throughout this story, principles of contrast are shed to reveal one’s true characteristics.…
The origin of a story may come from a plethora of triggers in life such as a notebook, memory, or even pure intuition. In Kingston’s novel, The Woman Warrior, she primarily uses her memory to recall the legend of Fa Mu Lan, a Chinese girl who took her father’s place in battle illegally (21). Kingston uses this familiar Chinese story that leaves a “direct personal impression” on her and links it to her own imagination (Lanning and Macauley 3). This fabricates the origin of a story that gives the reader insight on how Kingston feels about Chinese society.…

All things truly wicked start from innocence. A moral truth that finds its place among today’s society. Innocence is such a frail, yet valuable quality. The loss of innocence can lead to such disastrous consequences. The theme of the loss of innocence is a prevalent one found throughout the novel The Wars by Timothy Findley. It is noted particularly in regards to the protagonist, Robert Ross. Early on in the novel, he encounters such miserable situations that dramatically mature his character emotionally and mentally in such a short period of time. Such events include the sudden loss of a loved one, sexual encounters, and the murder of the innocent.…

Everyone has to face challenges, but not many confront it. Whether they are young or old, rich or poor, the struggle of a challenge can vary. In the biographical sports drama titled The Blind Side directed by John Lee Hancock, the protagonist Michael Oher faces countless challenges and difficulties and attempts to address them. As the film progresses, the director continuously exposes the viewer to Michael’s character along with the predicaments he faces. When coming to confront these challenges doing so alone may be tiresome which is why a loved by your side makes it easier. How you choose to tackle the situation as well as how you react to it can deeply shape who you are as a person. Who you…
The horror on the screen was only matched by the horrifying look on my fellow movie goers' faces. While I am not familiar with David Cronenberg's work watching this one film quickly acclimated me to his extreme methods of capturing reality. Many of the images projected on the screen evoked such a visceral reaction that the emotions of the characters seemed to live vicariously through the audience. What this movie lacked in plot it more than made up for in character development and excellent cinematography.…
