The Thing In The Forrest: A Brief Analysis
In the Thing in the Forrest two little girls, Penny and Primrose became friends with one another while being sent away to a foster home. Both were scared and afraid of what the outcome of their futures would be, but both vowed to keep by each other’s side no matter what happened to either one of them. On a day they would never forget; Penny and Primrose was playing and decided to go in the woods. There they encountered a scary monstrous thing that would leave them scared for years. Penny, who later became a psychologist that studied the development of psychology and primrose later becoming a story teller for children, both remembered the monstrous thing and decided to question what it was. When Penny and Primrose decided to question what the monster was they were able to discover that it was only a figment of their imagination. Penny was able to let go of the pain and suffering the monster put her through, because she knew from studying psychology that it was only in her mind. She was scared of the outcome for her future because she did not know where her future would lead her. Primrose on the other hand was not able to let go of that pain the monster put her through because she did not understand where or what it was trying to do. Penny understood that when a person is scared they tend to create a false fantasy or nightmare. …show more content…
The symbolism in their encounter must have been their fears in their imagination coming out and scaring them, because they did not know how to handle the change they were facing in their lives. In the end Penny let go of the fears that were troubling her. Primrose did not know how to let go of those fears, so she chose to let them bother her, without looking for closure. Reading this can set an example for all readers to never let the fear of a past event hold you back from the unexpected future. Do not look back, look

In the stories, “The Thing in the Forrest” and “Yellow Wallpaper,” both have seem to have symbolism behind both stories. The two girls Penny and Primrose in the story “The Thing in the Forrest” go into the forest and encounter a terrifyingly scary creature that scarred them both for years. In the story “Yellow Wallpaper” the nameless narrator faces a “creature” of her own. The woman in the wallpaper. This woman in the wallpaper was like the creature Penny and Primrose seen in the forest, just not as terrifying. The woman in the wallpaper was symbol of the narrator trying to rid her problems by facing her problems, like the monster that Penny and Primrose, the monster resembles the war the two girls faced which took them years to overcome.…

In the novel, A Separate Peace by John Knowles, Gene Forrester and Phineas, also known as Finny, are best friends who have a very deep friendship. However, as the story progresses, Gene began to develop feelings of jealousy for Finny when he saw how perfect Finny’s character is. Finny has always been able to talk his way out of trouble and is naturally a good athlete who is earnest, confident, & pure. On the other hand, Gene cannot be pure like Finny and feels insecure. Seeing how good Finny is, caused Gene to become jealous, “I was beginning to see that Phineas could get away with anything, I couldn’t help envying him…” (ch2.20) Soon, Gene thinks that a rivalry is happening between them. Because Gene envies Finny’s character, he thinks that Finny is also jealous of him for his good academic performance, “I felt better. Yes, I sensed it like the sweat of relief …We were even after all… The deadly rivalry was on both sides after all.”(ch4.34). By thinking there is a competition between them, Gene feels at ease, because none of them is better than the other. One night, Finny announced that Leper will jump off the tree, in order to become a full member of their secret society. Gene didn’t want to go because he feared his grade would slip if he didn’t study and also thinks that Leper wouldn’t dare to jump off the tree. After hearing from Gene that he wanted to study, Finny was surprise because he thought that Gene was naturally intelligent, who doesn’t need to review for a test. With sincerity, Finny lets Gene study, but Gene changed his mind and would come along with Finny. On the way to the tree,Gene realizes that a competition never happened and it was just Gene that was envious of Finny. The book by William Dietrich The Final Forest has highly influenced my mind. I read things that I have heard about but never heard the in depth as I read. The battle that goes on to save the Pacific Northwest last trees standing. I also learned more on how important the ecosystem is. Dietrich explains how it has been reduced which lead to the crisis of the ecosystem. The threat of disappearance of separate elements of the ecosystem is shown as the result the deforestation. Nowadays, tradition logging is suffering as the result not only of deforestation but of automation, globalization and new scientific information about ecosystem importance. People used to do their jobs, cut forests, fish for salmon without even and sincerely thought that…

However, why do we tend to be falling in love with different kinds of people and not just one. From one moment to the other we stop having feelings towards the people we thought were going to be our everything. Kathy Wade decides to cheat on John Wade, because it’s her way of showing John that she knows that he is watching her.…

I chose the book Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder and illustrated by Garth Williams. This book was first published in 1932. I chose this book at random from my grandmother’s house over Thanksgiving. I knew that she had all of the books and my sister had used my grandmother’s collection to read them all when she was younger. I just chose the first book that I saw and I really lucked out because it looked interesting. I felt that I could not go wrong with any of the books because they are widely praised for being great reads. This was the first time that I was reading a book from the collection. I had been interested in other titles when I was younger so I never became interested in these books.…

    The Cabin in the Woods

In “The Cabin in the Woods”, the film is directed around two locations in the movie, the “control room and the “cabin area”. The control room is visually brighter because that is where everything is being caused. It’s the work area to some therefore needs to be brighter than the cabin. With the “cabin area” being visually darker, you get a sense of danger and evil lurking within the woods. This is proven true when the “zombie redneck torture family” is released from their “grave” after the latin was spoken. These two areas have their own reason to being light or dark. These two areas are distinguished through the lighting. If it was dim, you knew you were in the woods with the cabin. If it was bright, you knew you were in the control room watching the cabin. Mise-en-scene is telling a story throughout the whole movie. Even though you don’t know the time, it is clearly figured out with the sky being dark only to assume its night time. The majority of the characters are introduced within the first ten minutes of the movie. They are given a title to themselves later on in the movie to show the type of people the control room needed to sacrifice to satisfy the Gods. Mise-en-scene also shapes the audience’s attention and feelings when everyone starts to die. Once you grow attached to a certain character and they die, you’re not sure how to feel. Mise-en-scene helps the story plenty. You are given all these elements and once you put them all together, you have a reasonable storyline that is easy to follow. The scene where all five characters are in the basement admiring the artifacts, you get a sense that something is wrong. Marty is the only one to figure everything out. A theme to this movie could be that nothing is what it seems. These five friends thought they were going to have a great weekend getaway but instead end up playing a cat and mouse game to save their…

After seeing the ghost of Peter Quint at the window the governess discovers that he was intently looking for Miles. "'He was looking for little Miles.' A portentous clearness now possessed me. 'That's whom he was looking for'" (31). Again upon seeing Miss Jessel's ghost across the pond the governess tells Mrs. Grose that the apparition had "'fixed the child...with such awful eyes...with a determination-indescribable. With a kind of fury of intention'" (38). These two incidents directly connect the children to the reason Quint and Miss Jessel have returned to Bly, to possess and live through Miles and Flora. The governess also concludes that the children are aware of their possessors and are deliberately trying to conceal Quint and Jessel's existence. At the pond, for instance, Flora deliberately turns her back on the apparition, consciously ignoring its existence, then later denies to the governess that it had in fact existed. It is for this reason the governess takes up her job with a new determination to save the "lost" (40) children. Again when the governess finds Flora awake late at night staring down through her window at Miles who was down on the lawn "motionless and as if fascinated... looking...at something that was apparently above me" (53). Later on Miles explains he was…
