The Thing In The Woods By Steve Brezenoff
Book Report
The book “The Thing in the Woods” was written by Steve Brezenoff. It was published by Stone Arch Books in August 2008 and it belongs to the Shade Books series. The book contains 80 pages and the illustrations were made by Rich Pellegrino. Also, it is a story of speculative fiction. I choose to read this book because the cover looked interesting and it was of mystery, which is one of my favorite types of book genres.
The story takes place in the desert. It is hot during the day, but cold at night. There’s a road, a town, a small patch of woods and a cave. The story is narrated in the past tense by the author. The characters are Jason, Jason’s dad, and a mysterious being. Jason discovers his dad is missing and starts searching for

He is easily frightened but has shown to be brave and caring enough to go search for his dad all alone at night and confront scary creatures. He is a little bit selfish and disobedient since he almost stole the treasure, but he returned it. Jason’s dad cares a lot about his son and they both seem very close, but he is stubborn and foolish because he already knew that the treasure inside the cave had an owner and thought the mysterious being wouldn’t notice if he just took three coins. The antagonist, which is the mysterious voice, is very persistent and annoying since he wouldn’t free Jason’s dad until both returned all the treasure they …show more content…
Nonetheless, once he got out of the cave, he discovered that the mysterious creature had turned his dad into stone because three pieces of the treasure were missing. As he stared at the ground, he saw the missing treasure and threw it into the cave. Suddenly, his father started moving and returned to normal. Jason asked his dad why did he try to steal the creature’s treasure and he said it was to show Jason that his story was true. At the end of the story, Jason said he believed him it and he was going to tell him about the giant

In many works of literature, characters who love one another or share a friendship often face obstacles to their relationships. Sometimes the characters overcome the obstacle; sometimes the characters are defeated by the obstacle. In the short story “Hills like white elephants” by Ernest Hemmingway the two main characters; the girl and the American, aren’t quite in love but are in some sort of relationship dealing with a big obstacle of whether or not the girl should have the operation. Throughout this short story, the reader is unclear of the type of relationship these two main characters hold, whether it be friends with benefits or an official couple.…

Scholar Ignace Feuerlicht states, “Camus holds that man is an eternal stranger to himself, that he cannot grasp and define his self or integrate its different aspects.” 1 Meursault is a stranger to society and himself in many ways and the ambiguity of the novel, The Stranger by Albert Camus highlights his departure from an existence driven by expectation and ambition. Meursault floats through life without ambition because he does not view the threat or presence of death as enough motivation to live a meaningful life, attempting to protect himself from the surprises or expectations he may not meet or like. Meursault changes his outlook on living as he is forced to contemplate…

Social indifference is often defined as a lack of interest, concern, or sympathy which could be detrimental to a social setting. To quote author J.K Rowling “ Indifference and neglect often do much more damage than outright dislike.” In the story The Stranger by Albert Camus we are introduced to Meursault, a psychologically detached character who at first seems indifferent and apathetic which at first is very frustrating to the reader. However, through multiple readings, you understand the character is almost a mirrored reflection of the author. The author Albert Camus, tells us his views on society and the justice through his character Meursault.…
