The new iPad
In the technology world, releasing a new product on a yearly basis has become an industry trend. With new releases of product or technology come ground breaking new features that appeal to the consumer either to purchase or upgrade to the latest and greatest technology. Apple is today’s technology king, which brings technology to the consumer in a fun and easy way that connects people to their favorite music, websites, games, friends, and other entertainment. Since the release of the original iPad in April 2010, Apple has dominated the tablet market and has sold two times the amount of iPads compared to all other tablets combined. “The new iPad” is the third generation tablet released this year by Apple, but the features are not ground breaking enough to spend that extra $100 to purchase or upgrade over the iPad 2.
Processing speed is a key component when comparing computing technology. Consumers want speed to get around the internet or load their favorite Angry Birds application. The Dual-core A5x is not going to give a noticeable difference in performance when browsing the internet or using the majority of applications. In contrast, when Apple launched the iPad 2, the Dual-core A5 processor was benchmarked as 65 percent faster than the original iPad A4 processor. Damien Rager says from IOSnoops.com “While our tests show that the A5 is clocked at a lower speed than the A4, most likely to limit its power consumption, the presence of two cores makes up for the lower speed, as overall, the new processor delivers a performance improvement of up to 65-percent over its predecessor” (Rager, 2011, para. 5). The main difference between the A5 and A5x is the graphics to support the new 9.7” Retina display. Andrew from Jailbreaknation.com says “The A5X chip is certainly not a slow chip at all. It handles the new
