With today’s society the teen’s suicide rate has gone from 8.8 deaths per every hundred thousand people to twelve point three per every hundred thousand teens. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among young people ages 13 to 24. In recent years, suicide has increased at an alarming rate in adolescents. One in five teenagers in the United States considers suicide, in 2003, 8 percent of adolescents attempted suicide. It can affect teens from all races, both genders, and socioeconomic groups. According to a 2004 report distributed by the National Institute of Mental Health identified that psychological, environmental, and biological are the possible causes for suicidal distress. The risk for suicide frequently occurs in combination with external circumstances, lack of coping skills, substance abuse, and depression the most common psychiatric disorder in people who die in suicide. Adolescent suicide can be prevented by recognizing the possible symptoms and warning signs. Suicide prevention programs, crisis center hotlines, screening programs, seek to identify at risk adolescents and provide them with the proper treatment and reduce suicidal ideation.…
Untreated depression and other mental disorders are a key component to teen suicides. Depression, especially, can be triggered by several events in a teenager’s life such as problems at home, breaking up with a boyfriend or girlfriend, and dealing with sexual identity (Will). Maureen Underwood, a social worker who has written suicide prevention school curricula and who works with the Society for the Prevention of Teen Suicide, states these “triggering events could push someone off the edge” (Harpaz). Unlike adults, who have the capacity and skills to overcome such obstacles, teenagers have not reached the level to do so. According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, at least 90 percent of people who kill themselves have a diagnosable and treatable psychiatric illness (“AFSP: Risk Factors”). Therefore, the awareness of student’s actions and emotions by parents, teachers, and other adults are imperative.…
Suicide. We see it on the news almost every day. People from the age of 10 yrs. old to 80yrs old are committing suicide left and right due to personal issues. Suicide is in fact one of the leading causes of death of Americans and other people worldwide. Suicide is something that is not new to society. When a person turns to suicide it is not necessarily showing a sign of weakness. People see it as their way out to escape from reality. Of course, we all do not commit suicide. We all certainly do not even think suicide should be an option. Some people find safer, more constructive ways to deal with stress or whatever they may be struggling with. Others are not so lucky. As…
Today, many teenagers have thoughts about death every day, and many teenagers have a tendency to get depressed easily, and this is where suicide often is the “easy way out”. But suicide attempts are often also just a cry for help, because studies show that many teens who have died by suicide have done up to 25 suicide attempts before “finally” taking their own life. 1 Many teenagers often use suicide attempts to cry for help. Many often just take just the “right” amount of pills to get in the hospital, but not enough to so it becomes deadly, and this is can get very dangerous.…

Walking into class or walking into your house and seen that someones missing . Looking at the chair and seen that someones missing walking into your house and not hearing no one scream or run around the house can be a strong feeling. Thinking that you'll never see that person again is really challenging. Waking up the next day thinking it was a dream but your really waking up to reality. My high school bestfriend male was 16 years old when he commited suicide. He committed suicide in pasco WA, in July 2017. Some causes why he hade commited suicide could of been drepress, stress, or bullying. After my bestfriend commited suicide we got a call saying he hade commited suicide it was a really strong feeling.…
Teenage suicide has become a critical, national problem the extent of which is mind boggling. From 1980 to 1992 the rate of suicides involving persons from the ages of 10-14 years old has increased by 120 percent, and has increased 28.3 percent when involving persons from the ages of 15-19 years old (Suicide 451). More recently in a poll of 3,210 high-school honor students, a stunning one-quarter have seriously considered suicide (Eaton 15). Suicides have been proven to be one of the leading causes of death among teens, falling second only to accidents (Roberts 45). This data, however, may be inaccurate, being that deaths labeled accidental may have actually been teen suicides. Also, many families may not want to report suicides or suicide attempts for the fear of embarrassment. Nevertheless, there is extensive proof that suicide attempts and/or successes are on the rise among teenagers, and numerous groups have devoted themselves to establishing a cause to this epidemic. The one similarity that all of these different groups seem to agree on is that there is not one single theory that explains the growing phenomenon of teenage suicide. However, a number of factors seem to be common among "at-risk teens," factors that, if given the right set of circumstances, could put them in jeopardy.…

In 2005, one young person in the United States committed suicide every two hours. That’s approximately 4,500 teen suicides! Of those, 100 to 200 teens died in clusters. In many cases, the additional victims were friends of the teen or identified strongly with something about his story reported in the news.…
A key characteristic of the US data is that suicide rates amongst US youths aged 15-24 has tripled in the past half-century, even as rates for adults and the elderly have declined. At 13/100,000 suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death, after accidents (which may include some suicides) and homicide. And for every youth suicide completion, there are nearly 400 suicide attempts. Other observations on US data are:…
