What are the differences between poetry prose and drama?

Jeffrey A. Beard
Answered Last poetry often has a formal structure or even a cadence while you are reading it... it is a form of writing where the words are usually chosen more carefully and people are effectively presenting it Prose is normal writing, and includes big novels or autobiographies, but can also just be an essay or a report. Basically it covers anything that is not poetry. Drama is usually a subset of prose, but is written for actors, so it is presented a little bit differently, with the characters identified, the setting explained, and interaction and camera notes (if applicable) included.drama includes feelings. The Greeks, Elizabethans, and others have written verse drama. Levie Estupa + 12 others found this useful EDIT ANSWER

Although one is easier to decipher than the other, they both require work to get to the roots of the true meaning of the poem, which someone who is just learning their letters, or only reads and doesnt really think about what it is theyre reading, would definitely be thinking Im seeing a poem but I have no idea whats happening. This is all due to the sophistication of the language used to write these poems, for example; Theres an espaliered pear from On the Birth of a Son, and was the noise of guns battering besieged Tobruk. For the average person, these to short parts of sentences would result in a tedious search through the dictionary and/or…

Drama is written for theatre production. Actors impersonate the characters by reciting the words that are written in the play. For example, Maurya the main character in the play Riders to the Sea, says the closing words to her son before he left home: “You’d do right to leave that rope, Bartley, hanging by the boards…for it’s a deep grave we’ll make him by the grace of God.” The actors must also follow the author’s directions. She kneels down and the curtain falls slowly. (Clugston, 2010) Drama and play are written for specific purposes. The poem, when it is performed, is similar to an actor doing a soliloquy in a play. For example Macbeth’s speech: “I have lived long enough: my way of life Is fall’n into the sere, the yellow; And that which should accompany old age, As honor, love, obedience, troops of friends, I must not look to have; but, in their stead, Curses, not loud but deep,…

An author writes a book or novel to have the whole story put right out for you with a clear cut beginning middle and end. A poet can write a “novel” in very minimal lines or a few verses. They tell a story but give the rest for you to think and ponder about. A poet uses multiple literary devices in one single poem. When reading a poem you have to decode or decipher what the poet is really trying to say. They may use metaphors, irony and much more, in the poem “I Finally managed to speak to her”, the poet, Hal Sirowitz uses both of these literary devices.…
