A self-driving car can sense its environment and things around it. It also has a GPS unit in the car, the car uses the positional information from the GPS to localize itself and give a 3-D image. From the 3-D images, humans program the car to make intelligent decisions , for example using the 3-D to find an optimal path to their destination that avoids obstacles. We see this technology evolving at a fast pace with fierce competition amongst many big-name companies. Many are researching and implementing the latest technology or submitting a patent for that design. Technology is great for society but with safety in mind that must be the main priority. Personal safety is one of the main uncertainties when it comes down to employing self-driving vehicles on our roadways.
