The Thane of Cawdor betrayed the King and was captured in the battle and Duncan decided to promote Macbeth to Thane of Cawdor. The witches met Macbeth and his friend Banquo on the Heath. The Witches said that Macbeth would become the Thane of Cawdor and King of Scotland. It is also prophesied that Banquo’s child will become king. Macbeth then tells his wife about the witches and what they said via a letter. Lady Macbeth doesn’t think that her husband has the drive to take the crown, “Yet do I fear thy nature; it is too full o' th' milk of human kindness to catch the nearest way: thou wouldst be great, art not without ambition.” Duncan goes to Macbeth’s castle for supper and to stay the night. Lady Macbeth tells Macbeth to kill the king, and take the crown. Macbeth says he will consider it but doesn’t commit. During dinner Macbeth starts hallucinating and acting strange. Everyone goes to sleep except the couple. Lady Macbeth finally convinces Macbeth to kill the king, “when Duncan is asleep.” Macbeth becomes king through another promotion. The new king orders a few assassins to kill Banquo and his son so there are no threats to his throne. Banquo’s son gets away but Banquo dies. The witches gave
