The Time-Out Method
The way I would punish a child for bad behavior would have to be the time-out method. The reason why I picked this method is because it was used on me when I was a kid whenever I acted out, and I learned from it. I’m willing to punish a child this way because when you want a certain behavior to stop immediately, just use the time-out method. The outcomes of my method would be used like this, when the child is acting out choose a time-out place that looks uninteresting for the child, such as a chair, or the corner, or even a playpen. Now when the unacceptable behavior occurs, you tell the child that the behavior is unacceptable and you give them a warning that you will put them in time-out if the behavior doesn’t stop. If the behavior continues

A.) I believe that using consequences and the ABC process will help a lot in shaping their behavior. The reason for this if the consequences match the misbehavior it will make a difference in how the child sees their actions. The child will soon understand their behavior is bad and then this will cause their actions to change.…

Child discipline is something that we have all experienced personally in different forms, seen used on others, and is also to some degree what many of us will go on to practice later in life with our own children. Each person has their own opinion on what discipline is and how it should be used on children. The Webster dictionary defines discipline as “training to ensure proper behavior: the practice or methods of teaching and enforcing acceptable patterns of behavior.” Nowhere in this definition does it condone physical punishment, or say you need to use harsh and malicious strategies to acquire the behavior you seek. Discipline of children should be used in a positive manner, to encourage appropriate conduct, rather than be used as reprimand and physical punishment, because discipline is meant to help teach and guide children to act properly in accordance with the rules.…

Sanctions and rewards are a very useful way to manage positive behaviour as a child learns that if they are well behaved he/she will receive a reward such as a sticker, certificate or award etc. They also know that if a rule is broken there will be a consequence no matter how big or how small, such as time out- time off rewards, staying in with staff and time off the playground. It is the ‘certainty’ of the sanction not the ‘severity’ that makes it so effective.…

Children also understand that poor behaviour is not acceptable. Within school we have a clear set of behaviour consequences such as if a child is disruptive: question them on their behaviour; a warning if inappropriate behaviour continues; a consequence if child chooses not to heed warning.…

This allows you to focus on the child and the behavior that occurred quickly and effectively. During this time we need to explain what kind of behavior we expect from them when they are in a situation like they were in hopes that the behavior doesn’t continue to occur. If it does we can take it a step further and create a chart for the child. For every day they go without a biting or hitting incident we can reward them with a sticker. At the end of the week if progress is made we can offer a significant reward such as toys/games/books that interest them or extra free time. It is important though to give positive reinforcement daily until you reach the end of the week. This allows the child to know that their good deeds are not going unnoticed. If any of the above doesn’t work we can address the issue even more personally. Meaning that if the child cannot do/behave how they are asked to consequences such as not receiving the reward at the end of the week, or less extra free time being…

Misbehaviors in the classroom can be handled to the lowest possible level by not going overboard or to the extreme. Simply offering students choices or options as to correcting their behavior, and being consistent with the consequences for breaking the classroom rules worked best in a k3-8 classroom. Most k3-8 classrooms that I visited had a system for monitoring student behaviors. I've seen a color code chart; in which push pins were placed in either green for good, yellow for warning, and red for lunch/ or after school detention. If students remains in red for the whole day a one on one conference was done, they got a…

The book I chose to analyze is Choose your own adventure: The Cave of Time, which was the first book of the choose your own adventure series. On its own, the book stands as a rebel among normal books, presenting itself as an interactive book, where one must discontinuously read to harvest all the possible endings. On a personal level, the book's significance emerges as I delve into the past. Growing up in poor neighborhood in Venezuela, not many books were available to me, and thus reading for fun was never a consideration until I moved to Canada at eight years of age and my quality of education increased.…

”Don’t Spare the rod and spoil the child.” We have all heard that before, as a child I heard it a lot. I was not the most well behaved child, so I got into plenty of trouble. My mom hated my temper tantrums. When I was little, she disciplined me, and now I am a well behaved young adult who knows right from wrong. Discipline is a way of teaching a child how to do what is right while growing up. There are multiple ways to discipline a child and make him/her behave. I feel that it is very important to begin to disciplining children when they are young so they know what is expected of them.it gives them a better sense of right and wrong while growing up once a child has reached his/her teenage years it is too late to begin the discipline process. If parents begin early, I believe that the most effective ways of disciplining children are timeout, taking away privileges, talking to the child, and, as a last resort, and spanking.…

“The recidivism rate for misbehavior by a 2-year-old is about 50% within two hours. It 's 80% within the same day. And that applies to whether it 's just saying no, removing the child, or spanking a child” Mitchell said (25). Children are going to cry, pout, scream, etc. no matter what form of punishment you ensue and chances are they will be back doing it eventually. They might do it again the same day, week, or even month but learning their lesson doesn’t always happen the first time. Spanking is like giving punishment without a reason why. If emotions get a chance to calm themselves, with time, parents can talk things out and a lesson has a chance of being learned better then in a whapping screaming match. Mitchell added, “It doesn 't take a whole new parent to avoid corporal punishment. Parents are doing dozens and dozens of things besides spanking, even parents who are doing some spanking. If they just left out the spanking, they 'd be doing the alternatives, and their child would be better off” (25). A simple search on Google for good forms of child discipline can give any parent better ideas. It may sound cheesy but “putting yourself in the child’s shoes” can be the best thing when it comes between what’s right and wrong. It’s always best to start from the beginning when having a child, but it’s never too late to start changing ways. Dr. Esther K.…

Parents have different ways to get their child to behave or to do something right. One reward system that is widely used is the token economy. Another popular way to control a child’s behavior is putting them in time-out. Is punishment better than reinforcements? A psychologist has a lot to say about time-out. Reinforcements might be more effective for parents. Depending on their child and what they believe in a parent might use punishment and reinforcements.…
