Several dragons have quit because of the intensity of the boot camp. Jessie understands the difficulty of this task, but he is not ready to give up. Throughout the time in his boot camp, he feels homesick. While he was in boot camp preparing for the ultimate faceoff with the Shadehag, he somewhat lost his sense of humility, he ignored his intelligence, and basically lost who he was. Once the training was over, Jessie went hunting for Shadehag immediately. He was finally going to prove, not only to his family, but to all of his former bullier, that he is the toughest dragon in Nupreytania. After several weeks of hunting, Jessie finally found the Shadehag’s lair. Once he entered the evil lair, he snuck around carefully. Trying not to make any noise, Jessie searched around the house. Shadehag was sitting on the couch, when suddenly. BAM!! Jessie struck the beast from behind. Shadehag swiftly got up then said “I see you have a death wish.” Jessie then pulled out a spear that he obtained in boot camp. They both faced off in a tremendous battle that felt like ages. Jessie injured Shadehags wing with his spear. Shadehag crashed into the ground with a sudden realization that this was over. Jessie prepared to rid Nupraytania of this villain, when something inside of him stopped

Not only is he rich, but he is also reserved and highly educated. Within the brotherhood, Tradd feels like he is the outcast and is able to diffuse most fights within the brotherhood using his words. During his education at The Institute, he is called ‘The Honey Prince’, making a joke of his suspected gayness because he is an English major and seems to not be interested in women. When he finally has sex with a girl on his trip in England, he thinks that it will erase his title. “But nothing happened. Nothing changed. People still think I’m a queer, and there’s nothing I can do about it” (Conroy 257). Pig is the total opposite and is best described as a beefy man with a hot temper. He is so infatuated with his girlfriend, that if anyone calls her pretty or says…

Sigurd, the Dragon Slayer retold by Olivia E. Coolidge, recounts a myth about a boy who goes on a quest to become a hero. The plan for Sigurd and Regin’s quest was that “Tomorrow [they would] ride out against Fafnir, and the treasure shall be [their] own (680).” Their quest was very simple to achieve because of Sigurd's determination to defeat their enemy, cook Fafnir’s heart for Regin, and gain the treasure Regin promises to him. Once they arrive, they see Regin’s brother, Fafnir, who went under the transformation of becoming a dragon, causing Sigurd to make a plan of attack, and, “With that he straightened his knees and drove the sword with all his force (Sigurd 681).” Sigurd’s strategy works when he succeeds in defeating his enemy, which…

The Leafy Sea Dragon is a marine fish in the family Syngnathidae, which includes the seahorses. The name comes from the long leaf-like growths on its body. Sea dragons are some of the most-well camouflaged creatures on the planet. They blend perfectly with the seaweed and kelp that they live in. Leafy sea dragons don't live on tropical reefs, but in the cooler rocky reefs off the southern coast of Australia. Despite their name, seadragons don’t have any teeth. They suck their food with their long mouths, just like seahorse. Their diet consists of Small invertebrates, including shrimps and other zooplankton. Sea dragons' mouths work like straws. A sea dragon waits until its prey ventures near, then sucks it up. Each day, a single sea dragon may eat up to a thousand creatures. Sea dragons have a thin tails which cannot be used for gripping. They have small, transparent dorsal and pectoral fins that propel and steer them through the water, but they just tumble and drift in the current like seaweed.…

While Jape is a clear antagonist, Jeremiah Land is the obvious protagonist and this is shown through his steadfast beliefs in God. Jeremiah shows his unique moral character through his good intentions and care for his family. His “miracles” prove to be the counter part of Jape and his killing nature throughout the book. This contrast is proven when Reuben survives after being born and is unable to breathe for a full twelve minutes. "When you are seven years old there's nothing as lovely and tragic as telling your friends you were just about dead once. It made Dad my hero, as you might expect, won him my forgiveness for anything he might do forever... The answer, it seems to me now, lies in the…

The Sahlstrom hall room 107 in the University of Minnesota Crookston is one of the rooms of the Sahlstrom Conference Center. That center is the focal point for many groups on campus, such as the famous Brown Dining Room. Its name was dedicated in honor of Dr. Stanley D. Sahlstrom in 1997; UMC’s founding provost and former University Regent. He was one of the leading figures to have ever contributed to the foundation, formation, and development of the University. Another Name for the Sahlstrom hall room 107 is the “Epicurean room”. Epicureanism is a system of philosophy based upon the teachings of Epicurus, an old Greek Philosopher. He believed that pleasure is the greatest good and the way to attain pleasure was to live modestly and to gain knowledge of the workings of the world and the limits of one’s desires. That highest pleasure is also obtained by living a tranquil life and having no fear. In modern popular use, Epicureanism implies love or knowledgeable enjoyment especially of good food and drink. Many items, companies, and places related to food are named after Epicurus.…

The attic vase “Herakles Strangling the Nemean Lion,” created in 525 BC, is one of many of its kind, celebrating the half man, half god Herakles and his immense strength and power. There are over 3700 vases that portray Herakles that were made between the 6th and 4th century BC (Woodard 295). Such an epic battle between Herakles and the ever ferocious Nemean Lion was a popular story of greek mythology. It shows a hero defeating a monster, gaining vengeance for those who fell victim to the monster’s murderous ways. In seeing the way that such a killing was glorified in those times, one can conclude that the Greek society was one of justice and sacrifice. They greatly valued strength and gods, and wanted to see justice come to pass. In the story of Herakles and the Nemean Lion, many cultural aspects are made clear, such as the fact that they believed in numerous gods and made sacrifices to them, as well as the fact that the citizens were ruled over by kings who had ultimate power over their lives, whose power was only trumped by that of the gods. Such a heroic story is common of those times, and shows the true values of the people.…

You soon find out that you are the dragonborn. You have the power of Thume, or voice. You can yell and basically effect the world around you by either doing damage or even become invisible. The storyline is complicated and involves twists and plots and quite a lot of dragon killing, and inevitably, dragons killing you. Probably the most annoying part of the game, getting stuck in a dragon fight that can take some time to finish if your not inept in magic, and all the sudden here comes another dragon, and on a rare occasion, a third or fourth dragon, leaving you with little ability to defend yourself against an…

The narrator has a lover, Jessie whom she loves deeply. Her relationship with Jesse seems to be used as a contrast and also as a relief between some of the appalling events that are told. Jessie is portrayed as having a fairy tale adolescence. She is innocent and the narrator clings to that naiveté for hope. This is adherence shown with the repeated use of hands as symbols of healing and bonding of these two women.…

Greek mythology is usually not given that much attention by the average person. I personally believe the obtainable information that is offered by Greek mythology is not pursued too often by people in today’s society due to the fact that they do not think there is a point of doing so. I myself was one of these people who had this closed mindset. People do not realize that a relation can be formed with the meaning behind some of these Greek creatures. These Greek creatures are not just a “fairytale.” Throughout school I have heard student say that there is not meaning or point. The real question is what are some of the meanings behind them?…
