Once Creon declares that polyneices won't have a hero’s burial, Antigone acts immediately, she knows that her brother deserves a burial and she was ready to break the law in order to make sure it happened. Ismene, “Go then, if you feel that you must. You are unwise, but a loyal friend indeed to those who love you.”(Prologue.82). Even after ismene attempts to stop her, Antigone knows she needs to do whats right, for her bother. One argument is that Antigone could have done this without breaking the law, but burying polyneices was also about sending a message to creon, and what better way to do that than break his laws? Antigone, “But I will bury him; and if I must die, I say that this crime is holy”(prologue.55) Antigone, from the beginning, knew she was taking a huge risk, and she knew the penalty was death, but that did not stop her. She truly believed that Polyneices should get a hero's burial, and was willing to die in order to make that happen. Although Creon does not kill her, he imprisons her, and Antigone would rather have died standing up for her brother than live in captivity under Creon's rule.
Conclusion
Antigone shows attributes of a tragic hero all throughout the story, and Creon does not. She was brave, honest, and smart about what she did, and made an impact not only on Creon, but their family and their people. Antigone did what was right, and was a hero for
