The actual launch of the Apollo 13 was on April 11, 1970. Two days into the mission it looked like the smoothest flight that the Apollo program had ever seen. "The spacecraft is in real good shape as far as we are concerned. We're bored to tears down here." said Joe Kerwin of mission control (3). At 55 hours the crew held a TV broadcast for 49 minutes where they showed off their living conditions and how they worked in weightless situations. Nine minutes after the broadcast mission control instructed that Odyssey to give their oxygen tanks a stir and moments later oxygen tank No.2 in the service module exploded, due to an exposed fan wire. The eruption then damaged oxygen tank No.1, causing them to start to lose oxygen rapidly. The cover of…

Amidst the shortcoming of the Cold War, the goal of the 1960’s was “to go above and beyond” in space exploration by successfully landing a man on the moon, which would serve as a gambit to conceivably lead the United States to victory. Before astronauts ventured beyond the earth, scientists had to assess the space environment and the hazards of human exploration. Soon after President John F. Kennedy assumed office in January of 1961, the space race was undoubtedly underway, and the United State’s primary focus was landing a man on the moon--hence, the Apollo Program. These Apollo Missions are significant in that America received technical credibility and hasted the end of the Cold War in our favor. Also, Carole Stott, a long-time astronomer…

    Apollo In Greek Mythology

Greek mythology was used as a way to explain and provide reason for what was going on in the world. (Hamilton,1) These stories were used to "lead us back to a time when...people had a connection with the earth." (Hamilton,1) In this time, people had "little distinction between the real and unreal." (Hamilton, 1) The Greeks recognized twelve main gods, the brothers, sisters, and children of the king of the gods Zeus. (Bleiberg) Among these twelve was Zeus's son Apollo. Although Apollo is best known as the Greek god of music, archery, healing, light, and truth, he was also known for acts of destruction and nature's control of life.…

Apollo and Aphrodite created relationships that were based off of a false identity. Even though it is not morally ethical to lie, these outcomes seem to be positive for both Apollo and Aphrodite. They received what they wanted, no matter what the consequence or loss would be to the mortals. The Gods don’t have negative outcomes, but there are plenty of potential bad outcomes for the mortals. The passing-by sailors are taken away from their livelihoods and forced to work on Apollo’s sanctuary, while Anchises runs the possibility of being hated by the almighties Gods, since he, a mortal, slept with a Goddess. Even though there are these possible negative outcomes, it does not seem to matter to the Gods, since their only objective is to accomplish their own goals.…

I decided to select, The Mark of Athena, for my book report because of the writing style the author, Rick Riordan, decides to use, which creates suspense and heavy-action in a relaxed state causing you to never drop the book unless you’re forced to. I appointed this book for my book report over Riordan’s other books because this book contained more action and displays the perspectives of all seven of the main characters who all have different personalities, thus making for a book that can suit many different people. The cover draws my attention because it captures everything that occurs in the book onto one image. The story begins with the seven demi-gods leaving to find the giants who are attempting to destroy Rome, and ultimately the gods. While Gaea sends her worst monsters toward them, Athena sends Annabeth on a separate quest in order to restore peace between the Greeks and the Romans. Athena sends Annabeth on this…

God choses whomever He wants to give His messages to His people. In the Old Testament, God chose very specific people to give His message to Israel. Ezekiel, was a great man of God and very faithful to Him. The messages he received from God were intense and different than other prophets of Israel. The Lord allowed Ezekiel to have visions of which he traveled through, and heard the voice of the Lord. Ezekiel was obedient to the visions and listened to God’s voice and what He instructed him to do, no matter what the consequence was or how strange, terrifying, weird the message may have been for Israel. These visions can even be applied today in the modern day church and show how much God loves His people despite repetitive sin.…
