The Trip to Thailand
My future trip to Thailand

I’d like to travel to Thailand, a beautiful country in South East Asia known as 'The Golden Land', to view beautiful landscapes, enjoy the tasty cuisine and experience the rich culture.

My first stop will be the capital of Thailand, Bangkok. It is somewhat of great contrasts - the modern outer walls are the first thing I will notice, but on closer inspection - the old, traditional Bangkok is still living and breathing. I could spend a whole day visiting the temples of Bangkok. When seeing these awe-inspiring architectures, Buddhist temples must be one of the highlights to me, for I’m interested in Buddhism. I also want to enjoy the nightlife of Bangkok, travelling by tuk-tuk through the crazy streets and cycling along back roads.

Of course, Thailand is rightly renowned for its islands. I plan to visit some of the best island destinations in the world, with clear waters, white and golden sands, palms and coconuts - truly paradise on earth. The Phi Phi Islands are where 'The Beach' was filmed. Yes, I can stand where Leo stood! Another island will definitely be Phuket- an island the size of Singapore with plenty of great beaches to experience. Diving into the warm waters of Phuket is really what dreams are made of. Thai’s beaches are where I can throw away my watch and spend lazy days soaking up some rays.

The food there is a wonderful part of the beautiful culture of Thailand. There are a variety of noodle dishes and soups that are cooked with vegetables and many types of meats. Even if I am a calorie-counter - Thai food is extremely healthy with an emphasis on vegetables, fresh fruit and lean cuts of meat such as mangoes, pineapples, jackfruit and papayas, just to name a few. I love their sweet, spicy and sour flavors.

After all these sightseeing, I may finally understand some parts of the Thai’s culture and I want to learn more about its diverse culture. With Buddhism being the primary religion in Thailand, it has resulted

The Chinese are inextricable from the history of Thailand’s development, notably due to the fact that they were instrumental in the flourishing of the agricultural industry and even helped Thailand discover as well as exploit one of its prime commodities, sugar. The monarchy also prospered from their labour, taxes and not least from their vices: gambling drinking and smoking opium. Thailand is frequently lauded as a model for harmonious multi-cultural co-existence and respectable levels of national unity between the Chinese and the indigenous, despite the ‘threatening’ presence of the Chinese in the economic and political…

One favorite vacation spot is the Hawaiian Islands. The Hawaiian Islands offer a rich and varied environment with many marvelous and amazing features. One may see pristine beaches bordered by clear blue waters, snow capped mountains, volcanoes and their lava flows, tropical forests and beautiful waterfalls. I visited the Vietnamese Buddhist Center in Sugar Land this past Sunday and it was a sight to behold. The center was surrounded by a green metal fencing with some sort of crest or emblem that looked similar to an steering wheel on an old ship. Driving into the center, the main road was split then split into two smaller roads. The road to the left led to a parking lot, while the road to the right led to a smaller parking lot surrounded by small buildings that seem to be places of worship. The scenery that over hung the roads were statues of lion heads, beautiful trees and flowers in all sorts of colors. The main statue however was a huge tall Buddha in the middle of large pond filled with Koi Fish. There was a small tiled area that visitors could take pictures of the statue in its amazing and beautiful nature. The aura of the place was one of peace and tranquility. The small tiled visitor area was then extended by an overhanging wooden bridge leading to a large tiled courtyard with small trees that was…

I visited a Vietnamese Buddhist temple in West Palm Beach, and I was able to partake in some of their religious practices. There are many Vietnamese people in Florida, so the temples where created in order to provide people with the chance to practice Buddhism and express the cultural values. The form of Buddhism I experienced was Mahayana. Mahayana Buddhism developed during the first century. The Mahayana believe in and follow the Pali Canon. Those who practice Mahayana Buddhism also welcome the Mahayana literature that was originally written in Sanskrit and later changed to different languages such as Chinese and Tibetan. Mahayana literature honors various Buddha’s and bodhisattvas. The Mahayana literature encourages many individuals to…

    The Beach

The Beach by Alex Garland portrays a form of tourism where it differentiates the authentic experiences of a traveller to a tourist. Danny Boyle's(2000) adaptation depicts an American backpacker, Richard, who seeks to discover beyond the sightseeing of typical tourists. Upon following a series of unfortunate events on an island, the article examines how the film has shaped a diverse audience’s interpretation of cultural travel. The Tourist Gaze (2002) by John Urry reinforces Richard’s motivation to travel as “romantic” instead of the “collective” tourist. The article explores how the Beach embodies the Tourist Gaze in Thailand whilst studying its promotion/demotion on the various forms of tourism. The relationship between these texts also draws upon the works of film theorist, Giuliana Bruno (1997) who expresses the film's spectatorship as a form of tourism and the interviews of workers and activist in Krabi Province.…
