The Triumph Of Venice: The North Carolina Museum Of Art
A work of art that I selected from The North Carolina Museum of Art is titled, The Triumph of Venice. The artist’s name is Pompeo Girolamo Batoni. The medium used in this painting is oil on canvas. The size of the painting is 68 5/8 x 112 5/8 inches. My first impression of this piece was so inspiring. This piece of artwork has so much going on. From the different actions being taken by everyone to the amazing landscape and colors, this piece is my favorite out of all the artwork at The North Carolina Museum of Art. I decided to choice this painting not just because it was my favorite but also because it was taken place in Venice Italy where the majority of my family is from. This painting is abstract. Abstract art uses a visual language of …show more content…
Line is used by creating sharp lines to divide colors in this painting. There is also sharp, bold lines to show the exaggeration and a shadow of creating the 3D effect. There are also lines that have a vantage point to show the 3D effect as well. In the background of the painting it shows the buildings are in the distance and multiple figures are up front posing by doing an action. Shape is shown in this painting as well. This artwork incorporates circles to accent their heads and their hats. Not just circles are being shown as shape, but also rectangles. There are rectangle shapes but the buildings in the background. They show almost perfectly straight lines on top and bottom. The buildings in the background have windows that almost look like an arch window. They look like rectangles or squares, depending on the size, and have a half circle on top, an arch. In this piece of artwork the colors are what attracted my attention. There are bright, dark, warm, cool, and muted colors mixed in. The bright colors in this piece of artwork almost show a light shining down on them. In the painting it shows that it is a nice day with a couple clouds in the sky. The dark colors in this artwork look like …show more content…
I personally think the meaning of this painting is the celebrating of the rebirth of the arts in Venetian Republic. The female figure represents Venice who is in a triumphal car that is being pulled by two winged lions that attribute to St. Mark, the patron saint of Venice. This artwork reminds me of a big family staying and working together to follow their dreams. From men, women, and babies, they are connecting with each other from big powers to small powers to accomplish it together. This artwork makes me feel very open and alive. I feel like when I look at this piece of artwork it reminds me of my family and how we are all so different but alike at the same time. You may not be the highest in powers but working together can get you there. I feel that there are symbols in this art piece. The one symbol that stood out to me was the lions with wings that are pulling the female figure who represents Venice. We usually see horses that car in people on carriages and such, but not lions with wings. This symbol represents Venice and how they treat the female figures. This artwork mostly expresses a feeling and an emotion. It expresses a feeling by the different ages of the figures and the landscape of where they are located. Venice is a very pretty place. The architecture and scenery included in this painting makes you feel like you can step right into the painting. It is so realistic. This artwork expresses emotion by

The style of this painting is abstract with simplified and exaggerated aspects. The water and sailboats have all been simplified. The boats that are closer to the front of the painting have been exaggerated more than the others in the distance. There are many horizontal lines within the painting created with the hard, exaggerated brush strokes in the water.…

The first thing to note is the overall composition of the painting. First and foremost it is a landscape painting. The colors are very monochrome; the space is stretched to reveal a depth to the painting that the eye cannot capture; and there is stillness to the art that embraces nature and serenity of life. In the right-hand corner of the painting there is calligraphy. The calligraphy lacks the precision, but is very clear in its form, much like the depiction within the painting itself.…

This painting is one in a series to honor women and comment on their "place" in pre-revolutionary China. As courtesans and prostitutes they are elevated in the artist's hands, isolated in a field of paint, accompanied by emblems and images from classic Chinese paintings. Characters for Nu Wa, a Chinese creation goddess are painted over her groin. Nu-Wa was the inventor of marriage and made humans by slinging a rope. The hand made meant that it was noble, and made with rope stood for poor. The multiple circles around the painting means Pi in the Chinese language, which translated means universe and it’s surrounding the women in the painting. The thing that stands out the most is the red square in the middle of the painting. This means female in Chinese and makes sense since its on the women’s groin I think this painting means uniformity and creation of people. The giant butterfly in the painting can stand for multiple things such as change, joy, and love. Also can show a feminist side to the women in the painting make her look innocent.…

Some objects in the painting are a pregnant woman, a burning candle, a skull, and a cross lying on the table under some books. The way the woman’s head is rested on her hand and she is staring into the candle light, shows that she is in deep thought. I believe that the woman is reflecting upon her life. She looks to be pregnant, which represents life. The unity of…

I don’t know what made this particular piece standout to me, probably because at first glance, I really didn’t realize what the painting was about until I read the title and looked at it again, and then it hit me. It was more to it then people merely sitting around in an open field with a couple of Roman soldiers among them.…

In my initial response I wrote, “I think this painting is about conflict and execution” and I want to change this to this painting is a political piece and it is very dark. It contributes to 19th century society in terms of the war in general. Moreover, this piece was not allowed to be shown in France. The scene in the painting “Maestro Della Fertilita dell’Uovo” depicts a series of interactions amongst human-like figures and animals. Some of these interactions suggest conflict, while others suggest kindness. The artist makes the painting more uniform using only the colors orange, yellow, white, brown, and blue. The focal point of the painting is a man sitting in a basket near the top of the painting. This man is grinning, and has no interaction with other characters.…

The artwork is The Flagellation by Piero della FranceSca in the 1460’s. The Flagellation is known to be a work of art because it was one of the first oil canvas that showed so much style and expression in the men. Which at the time was not something that was normal in the Early Renaissance. My initial reaction to the canvas is that it is random with a lot of things going on. There are a few men that are standing around, then in the background a guy is shirtless and looks like he is being tied up.…

The woman in the painting is a symbol which represents the women during Victoria era who are being confined by the ideal image of society and were suffering from oppression. The woman in the painting was being portrayed as imaginary perfect figures of "queen"(line 5), "angel"(line 7), and "saint"(line 7), but the images are not what she really is. The last symbol that is being employed in the poem is the male artist; he symbolizes the society's idealistic idea of women. He has been shaping the female model into a "saint"(line 5), an "angel"(line 7), a "queen"(line 7), which are all examples of the society's perfect ideal feminist images of women, this suggests us that in a sense, the artist is representing the society's appreciation of beauty. The three…

In this painting, many details can symbolize this celebrating. For instance, the posy of roses that the woman holds usually symbolizes love; dogs behind that woman is the symbol of fidelity. Titian, breaking the painting tradition, uses Venus as an incarnation to depict this worldly woman. This painting represents a new peak of the combat between the humanism and the medieval religious ideologies. Venus of Urbino exhibits Venetians enjoying rich and happy worldly lives, and the Venetian artists’ craving and praise for the human beauty.…

    A Portrait of Mona Lisa

This portrait was known as the greatest masterpiece ever to be painted. It was painted in the 1500’s. The way Leonardo Da Vinci used the lines in the painting was extraordinary. The lines is one of the most important elements of art that abstracted into a great piece of work. The lines did not illustrate any pattern of moving. The lines were mostly a combination of vertical, horizontal, diagonal, and contour lines. Many lines were cured and straight. The lines also varied in thickness. The painting had a variety of color, texture, and continuity. While viewing the picture, I did not notice any gesture lines in which would indicate action of movement of the woman. The artist did a good job of outlining and use contour lines to make the painting a more 3 dimensional. The lady in the portrait had a mystifying gaze. Da Vinci used a shadowing technique at the corners of her lips and eyes that made her look like a real human. This was a new trend in art at this time period. The landscape faded to create depth in the background. The landscape was uneven on both sides of the lady in the center of the portrait. The painting is meaningful because Leonardo Da Vinci created a new pose that still exist until this day. At that time period artist only used full length or side view portrait unlike the “Mona Lisa.” This emphasized evolution in art and inspired other great art forms to be created. Leonardo truly captured the beauty of the lady he painted. Her posture magnetize the viewer’s eyes to her face.…

I believe this painting shows a loss of identity. This is the reason I chose this as my favorite piece of art, because I can relate to it. There came a time in my life where I was struggling with my own identity. In today's world it is very significant to identify oneself with at least one thing (ones ethnicity, nationality, race, religion, or a particular belief). Many people still grapple with the notion of identity in many countries, regions, and various ways in order to fit or adapt into any environment (social, economic, cultural, political, etc). One’s identity determines ones position or situation in society wherever one lives. However, finding the right type of…
