The True Essence of Life “The search of the purpose of life has been puzzled people for thousands of years. That’s because we typically begin at the wrong starting point—ourselves. We ask self-centered questions like, what do I want to be? What should I do with my life? What are my goals, my ambitions, and my dreams for my future? But focusing on ourselves will never reveal our life’s purpose.”—Rick Warren
Much is being written these days about purpose, about finding the reason for being here on earth. What does God want us to do in our life? Most of the time, if you ask people about their purpose in life, they don’t know the answer and others will give an answers like to be a good friend, to have my own house and lot, to make others happy, to have a big and happy family. It seems that they give another meaning to the word “PURPOSE”. According to the dictionary, the word “Purpose” means the reason for which something exists or is done, made, used, etc. Do you know your purpose here on earth? Is it all about waking up in the morning? Taking a bath? Eating breakfast? Going to school/work? Planning for own family and enjoying life to the fullest? Does life only revolves around these things? No. Life is not a cycle. Like what Neale Donald Walsch have said that life is not a process of discovery, but a process of creation. You and I were created for a purpose. Purpose that we need to know, to search for and to fulfill. God has a reason why He put us in this world. According to Gloria Hamilten, Purpose goes beyond our physical and emotional needs. Purpose is something that is deeper. It’s not just about our needs, dreams in life, talents, abilities and etc. It’s all about our existence in this world. Have you ever thought about what life is really all about? Have you ever asked yourself, what is my purpose in life? How can I discover my real

The French Revolution was a time period of rebellion in the late 1700s throughout France. Charles Dickens wrote A Tale of Two Cities roughly sixty years after the French Revolution, starting as installments in a magazine then publishing his works in a book. The French Revolution was a time when man was extremely inhumane to his fellow man. This inhumanity is seen throughout Dickens’ novel in many ways. He proves that the cycle of man’s inhumanity to man is never ending when people come to watch Darnay’s trial for entertainment, the Marquis kills Gaspard’s child, and the Evermonde brothers kill Madame Defarge’s family.…

With this we find that God has given us a reason for our existence, a meaning for our existence. We were created by him, according to his desire, and our lives are to be lived for him so that we might accomplish what he has for us to do. If our ultimate goal in life is to bring glory to God then we can do that by being the best at what we do in the various callings of life (1 Cor.10:31). God wants us to know him as stated in John 17:3 and we can do this by having a personal intimate relationship with him so that we can truly glorify and enjoy God forever.…

The Question of Meaning/Purpose- We as Christians believe that our purpose is to do the will of God. John 15:16(ESV Bible) we are appointed to go and bear fruit. In Matthew 28:19(ESV Bible) we are commanded to go and make disciples. Through-out the Bible, God has charged us with being the salt of the earth and light of the world, He has commanded us to go and compel them to come so that his house may be filled. As we can see our main purpose is to live a life that exemplifies Christ and leads others to Him.…

In the poem “At the Gym” Mark Doty is giving a description of a person at the gym that is about to lift weights. The description uses terms that can be commonly used in describing the gym environment to give a deeper meaning to the life that we lead as human beings. The metaphors that are used to relay the message are a salt-stain spot, the vinyl bench, the weights being lifted, and the actual gym. Taking a closer look at the meaning of the poem can provide insight on our own life as to why we lead the life we lead. What is the true meaning on why we do things? Do we do things to be righteous or unselfish? Or is it that we do things to prove arrogance and selfishness? I believe the author, Mark Doty, is asking the simple question “Why is it that you live the way you do and what legacy will you leave behind?…
