The article ‘Millennials and hope: is the American dream still alive?’ tries to portray that the economic downturn certainly caused widespread hardship on American as it brought erosion to middle-class opportunity.
Whilst the American dream is evident within movies causing younger audiences to grasp this concept there missing the facts and statistics of what America is today. Economy is hard to reconcile as younger generations are still advancing with general phenomenon of stagnating wages, leaving us to think “where has the opportunities gone”. America use to be seen as a country to go too for a new life with job opportunities, housings and good money. Through the feature article the ‘American spectator’ greatly reflects upon that there is change and American is no longer the best country to be leaving the American dream to a holt. Whilst the American dream was evident back within the 1900’s we need to now understand the change in economics and society within the country. The article shows that there are different rights and wages between Americans and immigrants new to the country. Whilst immigrants aren’t expected to gain a sustainable life straight away, there still should be no difference in any of the salary’s given out. Whilst this could ne discrimination it also raises the discussion of whether this could be the economic crisis and welfare state of the United
States.
The second article ‘The Trump phenomenon’ by Freddy Gray illustrates his thoughts on Trump’s quotes and goal of making American great again. Whilst he is dis liked around the world for his attitude and his future actions he’s willing to out carry, he is supported by many in people craving the hope and re-birth of the American dream. Whilst his goal and aspiration is to do good and make the American dream alive again we need to ask ourselves “do we want those ethics and social norms within today’s society”. ‘September 17, 2015’ trump was asked “how will you bring back the American dream” Donald then responded and quoted with this “Look. We can bring the American dream back. That I will tell you, we’re bringing it back. Okay? And I understand what you’re saying. And I get that from so many people. ‘Is the American dream dead?’ They are asking me the question, “is the American dream dead?’ and the American dream is in trouble. That I can tell you. Okay? It’s in trouble. But were going to get it back and some real jobs. How about the man with the beautiful red hat? Stand up! Stand up! What a hat!” Whilst these intentions are good in his own eyes and supporters we need to think that, would that be the best decision in today’s society and community.
