Dear classmates,
In this essay, I try to examine the idea which the authors of the Candide and the Story of the Stone hope the readers to understand. The idea I generate from the two novels is that trying your best to find the happiness in your life even the reality is far from your expectation. Both Candide and the Story of the Stone are not contemporary works. In addition, they come from different culture, but the author can offer us the same suggestion for our life today. I believe it can explain the reason why the two novels are considered as the most classic work in the world literature.
Another reason of writing this essay is because of the culture gap, to understand the Story of the Stone seems more difficult for my classmates who come from different culture. It is the similar difficulty to me when I was trying to understand the philosophy and western religion issues in this class. By comparing the similar characteristic of the two protagonists, I hope this essay can help my classmates to understand more about the Story of the Stone and the culture which I come from. For example, my understanding of the poem: Truth becomes fiction when the fiction’s true; Real becomes not-real where the unreal’s real.
When the time came to revise my essay however, I became very frustrated because I am worried about whether my essay is good enough to help my classmates to understand the culture of the Story of the Stone. Examples really help me to explain my idea, but both of the novels include too many details. It takes me a long time to choose the proper example to support my idea. I feel like my essay needed more suggestions on both the language and the logic since I am not a native speaker. Your criticism can help me make more progress.
Sincerely,
The Truth Comes From the Novels
It is an amazing coincidence that both the Candide and the Story of the Stone have many similarities, even though the two novels come
