Rococo – Rococo key stylistic traits was that it uses light colors, asymmetrical designs and curves.
Rococo took place from around 1715- 1774. It was developed in France as a reaction against the Baroque style. One key artist of the Rococo period style is Antoine Watteau. One work that he is known for is the Pilgrimage to Cythera. This is a great example of Rococo because it uses those light colors and has lots of curves and is very asymmetrical.
Neoclassicism – Neoclassicism key stylistic traits are that they are usually serious, unemotional, and heroic. Neoclassicism took place from around 1750-1820. During this time the Age of Enlightenment was going on and was seen as the revival of artistic canons that was built of Renaissance art. One key artist of Neoclassicism style is Jacque- Louis David. One piece of work that he is known for is Oath of the Horatii. This is a great example of Neoclassicism because of the seriousness of the painting and the heroic sense of the brothers before they go to
battle.
Romanticism- The key stylistic traits of Romanticism are its emphasis on emotion and individualism. Romanticism took place from around 1800-1850. It was created as a partial reaction to the Industrial Revolution, the Age of Enlightenment, and the scientific rationalization of nature. One key artist of the Romanticism style is Delacroix. One of his works that he is known for is the Death of Sardanapalus. This painting is a great example of Romanticism because of the strong emotions it evokes and how it all focuses on the king sitting in his throne watching everything happen.
