What is obesity? It is defined as the state of being grossly fat or overweight. Obesity has become a global problem in the last decade, and more people around the world are suffering from obesity than from hunger. “More than half a billion were obese in 2008, and at least 2.8 million people each year die as a result of being obese” (Obesity n.d.). Added to that, “Mexico is now the world's fattest country for having more obese people than any other country in the world” (S-Obesity n.d.). Obesity can result for a lot of reasons, but eating unhealthy diets and doing fewer physical activities are the two main causes.

have a high content in fats, sugars, and salt. Nowadays, most people serve junk foods such as, pizza and burgers, which is included in unhealthy foods for having a big amount of carbs and fats. Not only junk foods, but also traditional foods are considered as a factor of addicting to obesity. For example, in Afghanistan customary dishes are great sources of fat and oil such as, Landi Palaw and Qabele Palaw. These unhealthy dishes can result in getting lots of weight and becoming overweight or obese.
Obesity is also mostly determined as a consequence of fewer physical activities.
The people who do not do enough physical activities are the people with the high chance of facing obesity. In fact, these physical activities such as, having regular exercise or going for a long walk burn the extra amount of calories in the body. When the excess amount of calories is burned, the person won’t gain weight anymore. Furthermore, the most well-known and strong factor of obesity is siting behind the TV. As a result, the people who are always busy watching TV are the people who also eat too much. obesity.
Eating unhealthy foods and not having a regular exercise program are the causes that will certainly result in bad consequences, which are very dangerous, and even people may lose their life. These effects will cause addiction to different diseases, including mental problems.
According to WHO, unhealthy diets (especially those which have a high content in fats, free sugars and salt) and physical inactivity are among some of the leading causes of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) including cardiovascular diseases (CVD), type two diabetes and certain cancers.
2.7 million deaths are assignable to diets low in fruits and vegetables. Worldwide, low intake of fruits and vegetables is estimated to cause about 19% of gastrointestinal cancer, about 31% of coronary heart disease, and 11% of stroke (Unhealthy diets and obesity n.d.).
On the other hand, the bad effects of obesity are not only health-related problems but also social effects. Generally, the people who are called obese or overweight have low self-esteem, which is a result of obesity. These people, children or adults, have trouble in making new friends and socializing. In addition, this inability separates them from other people; that is why, most of the times they are lonely and somehow depressed.
To sum up, obesity has two main causes: eating improperly and doing fewer physical activities. Being far away from fast foods and foods with high content of carbs and fat is the safest way of avoiding being overweight. Moreover, having regular exercise or going on a walk will keep the person fit and healthy; as a result, this is the most effective way of not becoming an obese. The people who do not take obesity a serious issue, soon or late, they have to pay for the
ignorance.
