The story unfolds in a post-apocalyptic future; rising from the ashes is an advanced civilisation surrounded by beautiful scenery. The Rusty Ruins is the perfect example for this movie. Imagine walking through the ruins, the buildings crumbled into pieces and the whole place is covered by a large dark shadow. The only thing you can hear is your own footsteps. In the thin air, there is the scent of burnt, rotted wood and a. That is the Rusty Ruins, an ancient city, mostly erased from the records. This setting would be perfect if it were intensified with ambient, dark background music, this contributes to the mood of the film as this whole story has a mysterious atmosphere and this setting will emphasise the atmosphere in the plotline.
A plotline is the backbone of this story, to have a good story, there must be a good plotline. Tally Youngblood, the main protagonist of this novel, is about to turn sixteen, waiting for her transformation to a pretty to be reunited with her family and friends. However, Tally’s new friend Shay wasn’t sure about that. When she decided to run away from the city, Tally learns the whole new secret and frightening side of the pretty world, which is not pretty at all. The authorities left Tally a choice which will change her life forever, the betrayal of her friend or never turn pretty. With the problem of should friendship be betrayed for beauty, this puts millions with questions and wonders - which would she choose? This novel would make a very interesting feature film because of the way this novel’s plot is quickly able to captivate the audience and wonder about the conflict, the decision that would change the character’s life, either friendship or beauty. Also, this plot involves a lot of problems that the target audience would have encounter in their life. The book will create a remarkable movie that will let the target audiences’ imagination to run free.
Now Jeremy is going to talk to you about the amazing characters in this novel.
This New York Times best seller is filled with complex, layered characters are relatable to the target audience of the film as they are of similar same age and experience similar personal problems and conflicts. The main characters in this novel are Tally and Shay. Tally is a very brave and determined risk-taker with good intent; as the main protagonist, the audience would be viewing the world of Uglies in her point of view through all of the adventures and mysteries. On the other hand, Shay, a close friend of Tally, unknowingly puts Tally into a tough dilemma causing the main conflict of this story. The actors and actresses who will play the roles should, in the best of interest, be well-known to bring attention to the film instantly. A great famous woman to play Tally would be Taylor Swift, a person who is a house-hold name and shares features with Tally. Shay would be amazingly played by Angelina Jolie as she is known as one of the top actresses in movies, she would certainly not disappoint.
Like many movies and books, this story also slowly alludes a very important theme, issue or moral.
The main themes in this novel are an example of a totalitarian society and the cost of being beautiful. These themes would make a fantastic movie from its understanding of the target audience since they have no rights to change any rules or to vote for anything in the modern society. They are totally controlled by the government and superior and unable to decline or disobey the rules that are set by them. The cost of being beautiful is also one of the strongest themes in this novel, the target audience would have experience of admiring people who are more ‘beautiful’ than them. However, the novel explores that it is impossible to have something that is perfect in this world, you must sacrifice something else, for example friendship or love. These themes would make a fantastic movie from its understanding of the target audience. The theme is an important factor to the audience's view due to the fact that the themes are relatable to the target audience. This theme is exploited by many great and successful movies like Matrix and The Maze Runner, the Uglies would also have a similar or even a better success. I would promote the film by making movie trailers, having advertisement on TV and making posters of this movie. Overall, this novel has a very good theme which would turn this movie into a very entertaining
movie.
