The first which I called THE DREAM JOURNEY came out in 2010. That book took me the best part of fifty years to put together and publish. This one has taken just under five years to complete, so I suppose that is progress of a …show more content…
In its first section ‘YESTERDAY’, I continued to work on in the same vein as the earlier book, with a number or poems of short and medium length on a variety of topics. In the second section ‘TODAY’, I worked with NEOHAIKUS and meditations. The neohaiku is a form of poetry which uses a contemporary free style approach to the traditional Japanese haiku. I then moved on to the meditations which are a series of long reflective works, which owe something to Walt Whitman’s long rolling verses. Here I worked with large classic themes like ‘God’ ‘War’ ’Life’ and the ‘Past Present and Future’. In these themes I question many of our past and present attitudes and beliefs. Though there are not many satisfactory answers available as far as I can see. Finally in the third section ‘TOMORROW’ I have the long anchor poem ‘THE UNITY PROJECT’ which considers what tomorrow will bring for all of us.
This poem was inspired by a passage from the work of Abdul Baha (1844-1921) which is called the ‘Candles of Unity’. Looking back now I would consider that this is one of the most challenging works I have ever attempted, as things stand, I have the feeling that I will have to approach the same subject in five years time, possibly from a different

During high school, I worked part time as a player attendant at the local country club golf course. During my time there, I formed a relationship with a member who later became a very important mentor of mine. Late into my senior year, he suggested I look into Investment Banking and loaned me his favorite book, Den of Thieves. The book was thick, nearly 600 pages, but told the story of Michael Milken and the insider trading of the 1980’s perfectly. As a high school senior with little business knowledge, I understood maybe 50% of the content, but the book sparked my initial interest in banking. Pursuing this interest, I found the booth for the Investment Banking Club at the Kelley Carnival and eagerly signed-up. Through attending the meetings…

In the essay “Don’t Blame the Eater,” David Zinczenko describes himself as a kid who would eat regularly at fast food restaurants until he got “lucky”. Robert Gray Poetry

Born in 1945, Robert Gray is an Australian poet renowned for his imagistic style, drawing strength from his fastidious concern for the precision of language and a meticulous contemplation of physical existence. Gray’s works are unconventional in structure, and prevalent throughout his poems are the recurring themes of humanism, consumerism and naturalism, peppered with allusions to personal experiences. Gray’s thematic concerns arise from his personal context, alongside his love of the Australian environment, “My poetry is very physically located” and his Buddhist ideals which influence his literary style. Gray’s thematic concerns and themes are manifest in all of his poems, demonstrating copious readings, including psychoanalysis and deconstruction, especially palpable within “Diptych” and “The Meatworks”. Multiplicities of poetic techniques are used to reinforce Gray’s thematic concerns, including symbolism, anecdotes and imagery.…

I am by no means a poetry fanatic. I disliked learning about their structure in middle school into high school. I loathed having to put together haikus and soliloquies for my English class freshman year. That being said I entered the basement of St. Ignacious with a rather jaded attitude and a goal for my new high score for the next level of Angry Birds. I slumped down in my chair next to my friends who also, I’m sure, shared a similar approach to this Thursday night where the plans for later that evening were of more importance. However, what Peter Rogen and Amir Vahab performed for the next hour kept my phone in my pocket and my attention fixed on Peter’s soft spoken tone and Amir’s calming melodies. While I noticed some of my classmates exiting early and dozing off, I saw others fixated just as I was.…

This is the second poetry I have ever written until now, and I believe it is a new start as my development as a writer. I have found out the process of writing a poem is not straightforward, but it is engaging. By examining published contemporary poems, such as “The Clan” and “Spitting Image” in class, I have a better understanding about genre conventions of contemporary poems. It also allows me to apply these techniques in my own poetry writing.…

Great minds would not necessary been great if they did not live in a time of significant historical upheavals. Those moments, when the whole world changes, when the poet’s homeland is transformed, reborn and people’s lives are scarified, seem to be kinds of fuel that deepens artist’s pain, refinements his talent and thus makes him great.…
