A cell phone can produce many distractions in the classroom. Loud ringtones and musical noises can easily cause a huge disturbance by calls, notifications, games, or text messages. If allowed, students would take full advantage of the use of their cell phones. Students could answer phone calls or reply to text messages at any given time during class. With today’s technology, the everyday cell phone has actually been transformed into a miniature computer. Now these cellular devices come with many more sources of entertainment along with internet capabilities. The capability of downloading games and applications would become more of a worry for the students than learning the lesson that class is providing that day. With all of these distractions a cell phone provides, any lesson would turn into hell for both the teacher and the students who actually intend to do something.…

Have you ever wondered why you can’t focus in class or why you didn’t score high on your Algebra exam? Well, my answer to that is because cell phones are distracting them from concentrating in elementary school, middle school, high school and even college. For instance, there are teenagers that text during class and that is not the right thing to do if the student wants to learn. For that reason, a lot of students do a horrible job in school because they get addicted at texting and using social networking sites or playing online games in the Internet. Teenagers should use their brains and realize that their education comes first before anything and they shouldn’t let technology distract them from reaching their goal. Phones are useful but teenagers shouldn’t use them as if their lives depended on them especially in school.…

To begin with, cell phones make it possible for students to stay in touch with family and friends. A student can call home and ask a family member to bring them a forgotten assignment or lunch money or to come pick them up if they are sick. Also, cell phones allow parents to keep track of their children’s whereabouts before, during, and after school. And, there’s always the possibility of a student needing to contact a parent because of a dangerous situation. Students can also connect with friends, but not just because it’s a fun thing to do; we can text or email our friends when they are absent to let them know what’s going on in class and to let them know of any homework. When used responsibly, a cell phone can be an excellent communication tool.…

Cell Phones are negatively impacting School Life. Between Two-forty pm. is probably the most anticipated time of the day for students during the school year. As soon as the final bell rings, students immediately reach into their pockets, backpacks, or purses and pull out their cell phones. One day, while leaving school, I witnessed a student furiously texting as she walked down the hallway, unaware of the door opening towards her. The door then slammed into her and knocked her off her feet, all because she was paying attention to her cell phone and not to where she was going. Business people have also relied on cell phones for the development and success of their business ventures. Although individuals are relying more heavily on mobile communications, the use of these devices needs to be balanced with an understanding of the risks involved in their use.…

It is now a norm to see mobile phones in educational and learning environments such as the school ground. Once an isolated learning environment, now a constant connection to outside distractions and interruptions. A survey of 1,000 young people aged 11–15 years found that 90% had their own mobile phone (Kendall 2001). Of those young people owning a phone; the majority (73 percent) had their mobile phones on during the class and a further 13 percent said that they had received a call or message since the class had begun. This shows the change from a student who should be focusing and learning, that is now distracted and socializing. We must ask ourselves, what quality of education are the youth getting? Along with education, work and leisure time have been radically impacted by the introduction of mobile phones. Usually these two lifestyles, work and private family life, were distinctly separated although the mobile phone has changed these limitations making it extremely permeable. The usage of mobile phones may be altering, in a profound way, the structure of leisure time. It has changed the idea of ‘killing’ time when you would read a newspaper, book or magazine. Now, killing time can be more productive by communicating with someone, planning things or even checking emails (Fortunati, 2002). Also, work life can now be taken…
