The Vagina Monologue
The vagina monologue is an episodic play written and starred by Eve Ensler. The play is made up of several personal monologues that touched subjects such as sex, love, body image, birth, and orgasms and even hair. Ensler interviews a variety of women from different ages, ethnicities, races, social classes, and many other identities. Each story provided different perspectives and responses on vaginas. The play enhances the empowerment a vagina is to a female.
The lightning of the stage and use of red curtains represents the subjectivity of the topic. This brought up a feeling of coming together and sharing something that would be considered intimate. I enjoyed seeing a topic that many women tend to hide in the shadow and see something that

Today was Christmas of 1918. All of the remaining family members from Ingeborg and Niels’ descendents and immediate family were all going to have dinner at Anna Larsdatter’s plenty large home. For a nearly-80-year-old woman, Anna sure knew how to make it look like she owned a fortune. When Gunnhild, Kristen, and Laura arrived, they discovered the rest of the family had been waiting on only them for the party to begin.…

The intense dance between the two leads was so heartbreaking yet beautiful. The piece told the story of a man and a women who cared deeply, supporting each other yet now being good enough. The man and the women had dragging movements, carrying and dropping each other showing that they couldn’t survive. At the end, there was a spotlight on the women as she collapsed to the floor with the man standing over her and others gathering around. The male lead sprinkled rose petals over her body, making the story so powerful.…

In Ensler’s article she states in her thesis that her words are powerful but yet mysterious. When saying something over and over again, it redirects out thinking, and our thought process on an idea. She uses an example of saying the word “vagina” 128 times in each of her shows, and when doing this opening up her past to the world, she started a worldwide movement to end violence against women. She uses great examples throughout the article how women open up about what they have been through, but Ensler lacks evidence that talking about what has happened to a person, really sets them free.…

Step by wicked step, my boots sank further and further into the thick, red-tinged land as if the devil himself were dragging my body straight into the depths of hell. The rhythmic squelching stabbed through my rubber soles, radiating pain throughout my soul as it seared everything in its path. Squelch, squelch, squish. My tempo was interrupted by those cursed boots refusing to budge from the stubborn terrain. As if taunting me, the earth unhooked my feet from the damned soil…

I’m hopeless. I’m completely and utterly hopeless. I have nothing to look forward to at a school. At least on the farm I had friends and a family. I had a life… largely consisting of stealing from tourists that visit the vineyard. I need to find a way to turn this car around. That’s it! I’ll tell dad that I don’t want to go. He’ll respect my decision. But if he gets mad… shoot, last time he pulled out the belt. No, I better think of a slightly less painful idea. I can make up an excuse – No, that wouldn’t work. If only I wasn’t such a bad liar. In hindsight, if I were a better liar, I would have prevented many bad run-ins with the cops, and the worst run-ins that were near fatal, courtesy of dad. Yeah, he knows me in and out, too, so I can’t trick him. That would be suicide. I could call my friends… if I had a phone. Now I’ll never get to explain to them how I ended up in this mess. They’ll just remember me as the kid who became a goody two-shoes. They’ll never know that I won the contest for acceptance into a private school only because my Grandma wrote the application appeal. My family just doesn’t care that I don’t want to go to school. Why are they not giving me a fair say in the course of my life? They don’t know how good I am at sneaking and stealing. They don’t know how much money I could make if my friends and I took it to the next level. They just don’t understand what I’m trying to say because I’m not good with words. Maybe this school can help me, though. Maybe if I go sit in just the English and Literature class, I can fix this problem of mine. I’m already in the car, why stop now? Shoot, this car is a ’98 Corolla and is used for transporting a family of eight. Maybe this family needs a high school graduate. Maybe they’re actually depending on me. Man, if I just try a little to be a good student, I can make some honest money. Maybe my grandma just wanted to see someone become great. I have to this. I’ll have the best of both worlds…

One foggy night I was with my friends. We just got done eating around 11:00. So we went outside real quick to get a smoke and we saw legs running through the alley as we walked out. We looked around for a minute because we were all suspicious. We didn’t know who it was or what it was all we know is we heard a loud yelp. But then all the sudden we looked down at the dumpster to a find a image in the dumpster. We all screamed in fright, we didn’t know what to do then we saw a girl running up and down the alley. We looked down and there was blood running down the dumpster this time. The legs were still dangling down. We thought we might have known the person but then we came to a conclusion that it wasn’t her. All that we know is the murder is a girl.…
