This week I learned about the history of the Victims’ Movement. The Victim’s Movement is a movement that wants to help improve the treatment of the victims. In this day and age the challenge that is arising is enforcing the Victims’ Movement meaning making it happen all the time not just some of the time. CVHR is now participating by joining as a member of the justice community and helping to enforce the Victims’ Movement rights. CVHR is trying to create a new balance by giving the victims what they have had taken from them while making sure that the justice process follows through with the best traditions all the time instead of just …show more content…
some of the time.
In my opinion I don’t think that the Victims’ Movement has reached its full potential.
There are always different ways to help to improve it. When something first comes out it has defects and flaws and we always have the ability to improve it, try and make it better, and work to make it more perfect.
In order for anything to improve things have to change. Society and crime changes so the laws and system must also change to fit the needs better. When a crime arises it does not just affect the victim but it also affects the offender as well as others in society as well.
The Victims’ Movement has a very amazing list of things that it has accomplished and all 50 states have passed legislation that helps establish the victims’ rights. Along with all the accomplishments come all the issues as well. One of the biggest issues is attempting to pass a federal victim rights constitutional amendment to help influence the Victims’ Movement.
Focusing on the Victims’ Movement and the three goals that it should strive for in the next ten years would have to be first of all eliminating challenges that include race, ethnicity, age, social status, gender, sexual orientation, whether they are citizens or not, and disability. These challenges influence future directions just the same as they have in the
past.
Another goal would be doing more research to find out what leads to crime. If we could eliminate or even control the problems leading to crime we could possibly help to get a lower rate of victims which leads to the third goal.
The third goal would be maintaining assistance programs for the victims as well as assistance programs for the offender. These assistance programs could help both the victims and the offenders by rehabilitating them and helping them get on the right path to recovery.
I believe the Victims’ Movement has not yet lived up to the full potential that has been set for it. I see good things happening in the future because of the Victims’ Movement and the progress that has yet to be made.
