The setting of the film “The Blind side“ is a very effective aspect in helping the audience understand the theme of difference in society. This shows that the Tuohy family is wealthy because that can afford to spend that amount of money on just a couch. Another example of a setting is Hurt Village, in Hurt Village the roads are cracked, kids are using a mattress for a trampoline, all you see is African American people and there is a constant playing of rap-r&b music. In the film a scene is shown where Michael goes back to the hood, he gets invited into Alton’s house, Alton says to his mate “Get us two drinks”. The mate comes with beer that is what looks like a fizzy bottle. This shows us that the people that live in Hurt Village do not live like the white people. For example if you were to walk into a celebration that is held by a white person, you would expect a variety of different alcoholic drinks and they wouldn’t be the cheap ones to. In the movie it shows them drinking out of fizzy bottles, this shows a clear thought that there is differences in society. Through these two settings of the Tuohy home and Hurt Village, we can see a strong contrast between the two. The director has shown that there is a difference in society. The first example of character is Leigh Anne Tuohy. Leigh Anne is a women that has worked hard for what her and her family have, she is wealthy, and she has a lot of nice stuff in their family home. For example a ten thousand dollar couch. Her emotions show that she is comfortable with what she has, she is happy with that family she is a part of and later on in the welcomes Michael to be a part of their family. Those examples shows that another emotion that she shows is the care she has for not only her family but she wants people to strive and achieve what they deserve and want. In the film Leigh Anne has set up a room for Michael with a bed, TV and draws etc. A scene is shown where Michael says to Leigh Anne “I’ve never had one”, she replies “what a room to yourself” and Michael say “A bed. Leigh Anne face changes and she starts to feel what he has gone through. Another example of character is Michael Oher, at the start of the film of the film Michael had a plastic bag with a set of cloths in it, and he used to go to the laundromat to wash his cloths in the sink and then he would use someone else’s dryer. Michael then use to walk to the gym to sleep there because it was the only place he could fine with shelter and warmth.
