But, when important White House officials began to resign, the public began to associate the White House and the President with scandal. The public then became outraged. The major people involved in Watergate were: Howard Baker, Robert Bark, Charles W. Colson, Bernard Barker, Richard Nixon of course and many other. First of all, the year was 1972 and it was election year. President Richard Nixon was running for reelection against democratic nominee senator George S. McGovern. The polls had Nixon winning by a comfortable margin. However Nixon was pulling all the strings to ensure a win. On June 17, 1972 the DNC headquarters was broken into by Virgilio González, Bernard Barker, James McCord, Eugenio Martinez, and Frank Sturgis. On that night security guard Frank Willis was on guard, after noticing something peculiar his actions lead to the capturing of these men. After, an investigation by the FBI the men were found to have connections with Richard Nixon’s Campaign. “Police found a significant telephone number in McCord's notebook, that of E. Howard Hunt, a former White House…
The Teapot Dome Scandal was the most controversial scandal in the United States until Watergate. There are many varying opinions about the Teapot Dome Scandal and, understandably, there are many differences between the Wyoming history and the US history articles. In reality, Secretary of Interior, Albert Fall, took a $400,000 bribe from Monmouth oil in 1921. There are many debates as to whether Warren G. Harding, the Preisdent of the United States at the time, knew of the bribes. The Wyoming article argues that Harding knew Fall was taking bribes. Even if Harding did not know Fall was taking bribes, everything will should fall back on Harding because he was the boss of Fall. The Wyoming article argues that the background behind Fall taking bribes are important. However, these details only tell the story of why there was oil in Wyoming and what it was being used for, all pointless. The bottom line is a United States politician took a bribe from an oil company. This cannot happen in any country especially the United States who was becoming an imperial power at the time. This scandal helped the United States lose some of its credibility at the time. Albert Hall generally gets most of the blame laid on himself for this scandal, as he should, but some people blame it on Warren G. Harding. In reality, it was Fall’s fault for being a palm itching politician. This is not what the United States wanted to be known for. The Teapot Dome Scandal is still one of the biggest blunders in American history.…
Richard Nixon is the 37th U.S President who is known as the only president to ever resign from office. Nixon stepped down in 1974 halfway through his second term in office rather than face impeachment on illegal activities in the Watergate scandal. In 1960 Nixon lost the presidential elections towards John F. Kennedy due to his physical appearance during a television debate. Nixon had a Staphylococcal infection and had smacked his knee and was in massive pain. Nixon was known for his abuse of alcohol through his presidency. It’s been documented that at times Nixon couldn’t take phone calls from some foreign world leaders because he was completely intoxicated. Nixon suffered a nervous breakdown during the Watergate scandal thinking everyone…
While Nixon did a lot of good things during his presidency Watergate is what he will always be remembered for. So, let I will start at the beginning. First came the organization of several men that the president and his associates would call the plumbers. The plumbers per a National Geographic Film on the matter were supposed to be a solution to leaks. These leaks were coming from every organization in the White House Administration they included but were not limited to President Nixon’s own employees as well as the FBI, and even the CIA.…
As President Reagan’s term was coming to an end, the American public saw little need for change. Therefore, George Bush became elected and was determined to follow Reagan’s legacy. However, due to the recession Reagan started and Nixon’s Watergate Scandal, majority of people had little faith in their government and believed Bush’s promise to not create new taxes and make America a “kinder, gentler nation” was just an excuse to separate himself from Regan’s legacy. However, the people’s skepticism would be proven right as Bush would not only increase taxes in 1990, but he would also make some very questionable decisions with America’s foreign policy in the early 1990’s.…

On the morning of June 17th, 1972, burglars charged with attempted robbery and attempting to bug phone lines were arrested in the offices of the Democratic National Committee. This robbery began one of the most infamous scandals, later to be named “The Watergate Scandal”, in American history, and put the president himself under the microscope of the law. The Supreme Court tried the case against President Nixon and his seven aides who helped him cover up the conspiracy. After Nixon’s refusal to give up recordings of conversations he had incriminating himself, claiming executive privilege, the Supreme Court became involved and charged the president with the first three articles of impeachment for obstruction of justice. This court case defined…
President Richard Nixon became the President of the United States of American in 1969, during one of the bleakest foreign policy crisis ever in History. President Nixon is remembered for The Watergate Scandal but he did succeed in doing many great things for the United States while he was in office. The Vietnam was going on and the American people were split as to for or against our troops being in Vietnam. The Cold War was at its highest point, President Nixon knew he need to help change America’s foreign policy. He also knew he had to bring America back to the” silent majority” (mindtap, Nixon’s the One, 13.2) which he viewed as the hard working, tax paying Americans.…
