The Wild Wee: Poem Analysis
The Wild Wee-st The west had room for only two things, whiskey and cowboy hats. There was no room for two gunslingers in this small town. Well… maybe we can fit two. Yeah we got enough room for two, maybe three. But that's no matter because one of us was gonna get shot, maybe killed but… that wouldn’t be PG for this story.
An old man stood in the middle of us and with a stern voice, said, “ I will flick this coin, and when lands the rest of us in the crowd will blink and one of yous will be shot, have a hole, eat lead, get heated, or die...that too.”
Me and the wannabe gunslinger stare at each other, the wind flowing through my mutton chops and long black hair. Men and women crowd around, which is a bad idea because if one of us misses, it's

The sun reflects from the coin and blinds me. So I cover my eyes. Then a bang and a ping. A bullet hit my belt buckle, but all of the panchos I was wearin gave surprisingly less comfort from the blow or bullet or whatever. It. Just. Hurts. Real bad too. But, the other slinger of the guns was confused on why I didn’t drop like a sack of potatoes. Usin the confusion as a distraction, I run up to the slinger that slings guns for a livin, and pistol whipped him so hard that even a train would think that was a hard blow. But this tactic was very cheap, and duels were sacred in this land. So the people, aggravated that I had broken the unwritten and undocumented rules of the duel. pulled out their six-shooters, even the women and children. And they were all pointed at me. To this I ran, but it wasn’t before long that my belt-buckle gave out from the bullet. My pantaloons fell, and I was runnin through the town with my pantaloons down. Even though I was waddlin, I managed to dodge all the bullets. Except for one little kid that got lucky and hit my prized …show more content…
With my theme song playin in the background. Hopefully I can do what those banditos do and sleep on a cactus. I did that once, but it turns out you can’t do it with just any cactus. I learned that the hard way. But hey its was comfortable. So I found a cactus and took a long desired nap. But then I woke up and found that everythin was missin, except for a broken accordion. This turned an already bad event, to an even worse event. So now I was walkin, with my theme song. But the accordion made it sound worse. Now all I need was an oboe and my theme song will be

The book “The Outlaws of Mesquite” by Louis Lamour is very intriguing. It starts out at the beginning of the story talking about the old west and his views of it. The main characters are a man named Milt Cogar and a woman who’s name they don’t know. Another is an outlaw named Sam and his rowdy crew who rides with him. They cause a lot of trouble for the town folks. The first story is all about a man named Milt Cogar. He is sitting on his horse and a man starts coming his way and the woman tells him about what kind of person he is which overall is not a goodone. The man starts to pull iron on him and Milt says if you try I will kill you. He himself was holding a long rifle square aimed at his chest. He then talks to the woman afterwards and…

I then hung the gun to my side and unlocked my door and opened it carefully, then the man outside my door kicked it in. the door hit me and knocked me off balance a little. I saw him pull out his hand gun it happened to be a Colt .45 model 1911 so I sprinted towards him and grabbed his hand and pointed the gun away from me. As we were struggling for supremacy over the gun he let off a round that whizzed by my head. At that moment my adrenaline kicked in at full potential and I slammed his hand against the door way viciously and repetitively until I broke the trim off around the door facing and he dropped the gun so then I kicked it away. I then brought my twelve gage into firing position and squeezed the trigger rapidly until I was completely out of ammunition.…

Leader reported that “Ranger” Jones and his men were attacked at his ranch on July 30 on the Platte River, near Casper, Wyoming. The Indians had driven Jones and his men into a make shift dugout for two days and on August 1, Jones and his men made their way to John Iliff’s ranch which was about forty miles farther up the Platte River, were they were able to get rest, fresh horses and needed supplies before heading back. What is so ironic about the meeting of these to is that such a large and powerful cattle baron such as Iliff in the next sixteen years would have great conflict with ranchers such as Jones. Unknown assailants assassinated Ranger” Jones and fellow ranger John Tisdale, fifteen years later under accusations of rustling, just four months prior to the Johnson County invasion. It leads to early speculation why a cattle baron of Illiff’s stature and prestige allowed Jones to take refuge in his home if he there was speculation of cattle rustling over thievery of any sort. Even though Iliff would not live to see the invasion of Johnson County, the satire of his crossing paths with “Ranger” Jones makes the Cattle Baron story much more intriguing.…

Horses and cowboys have, in many ways, changed the history of the West. “Horses are inextricably linked to the mythic cowboy within the national symbolic. More so even than the cow or the gun, the horse defines the cowboy’s status as sacred, special, and uniquely American” (Spurgeon, 89). Without what the Plain Indians called “sky dogs”, the west would not have been conquered. In fact, horses have played a major role in the evolution of civilization. From Alexander the Great conquering Macedonian horsemen, to Genghis Khan, to Napoleon, horses have always played an integral part of history. Cormac McCarthy’s All the Pretty Horses is a coming of age story of John Grady Cole who dreams of the mythical west that we have all come to know and love. He himself is a modern recreation of the mythical horsemen that have circled the imagination of all young boys for centuries. John Grady was born a horseman and has the soul of a horseman. He has been “born to sit and ride a horse” (Lincoln, 102). Through the studying of the significance of the horse and its spirit, John Grady Cole, the main character in McCarthy’s novel, can be better understood and appreciated.…

I walked in hung my cartridge studded belt with a pistol holster suspended from it on a hook in the wardrobe and hung my hat above it. I turned around toward the barber, loosened my tie and said “It’s hot as the devil, I want a shave” with that I sat down and waited for him. It has been four days since my last shave; I have been out on the foray looking for rebels. He started to apply the shaving soap, he scraped a bit of the soap and applied some warm water and the lather began to rise. “We caught the leaders. Some of the brought back dead and some alive.” With a troubled tone he asked “How many did you take” I replied fourteen and with that he put the sheet on me and began to work. He started carefully; he slowly removed my beard I could feel his hand trembling. He knew who I was, Captain Torres the leader of the regime fighting the rebels like himself I was told if I come in or a shave he would kill me. I just had to find out if he would, I leaned back exposing my neck and closed my eyes and waited for him to finish. Once he finished I got said thanked him adjusted my buckle straightened my gun, put my hat on and pulled some coins out of my pocket as payment and headed towards the door. My eyes widened as incoherent words spilled out of my mouth, begging, "please, don't shoot! It ain't loaded!" but to no avail. I saw Dally go down, a crumpled heap; desperate, violent, and suffering, the way every hoodlum went out, just the way I had always hoped that Dallas could avoid. I could hear Two-Bit's voice next to me, wild and panicked, but I couldn't make out the words.…

The wild west was one of America 's most violent times. The American Wild West is a period of history rife with tales of vicious gunfights and battles between lawmen and outlaws. It is the story of exploration and forging a new way of life. Men, women and children left their homes in the East and headed West looking for land and riches. While Hollywood has tended to portray this historical era as one of harshness and violence, scholars have suggested recently that much of the violence in the Old West was more myth than fact. While violence might not have been commonplace, it definitely happened, sometimes explosively. From the gunfight at the O.K. Corral to one-on-one gunslinger showdowns, history reveals that this was a dangerous time.…

We met up with Al Capone and his followers to begin the rumble. We all stood there silently until the North showed up. There were only 5 of them and 7 of us. There was me, Gerald, Robert, James, Al Capone and 2 others, but I didn’t really pay attention to them. John and William The tension was intensifying and I couldn’t hold back and I began to run towards the North side gang. Then everyone else followed. There was punches being thrown and gashes to the arms and legs being given. I was terrified of what would happen to me and especially the boys. The Virginian was a strong man; he exhibited the character traits of a brave man. The Virginian clearly showed that he was brave while at a gambling table. One of the gamblers was angry and insulted the Virginian; He quickly drew out his gun and demanded a smile of the man that had insulted him. The Virginian is then told that only cowards are dangerous when they draw their weapons by the dealer. He replies back by saying, I wouldn't worry for a brave man, your life is safe. Cowards always shoot before it's necessary. While he was cleaning his rifle, the Virginian speaks to The Easterner than without warning fires a shot close enough to upset the Easterner for the Virginian’s negligence concerning his rifle handling. Later he points out that if hadn’t fired his rifle the snake now lying dead by The Easterner would have caused its own set of problems. The Virginian does not choose to leave town when his reputation is at stake, moreover, He would rather face Trampas and defend his honor than leave town and be viewed as a coward. By these examples of bravery, The Virginian establishes his courage to everyone.…

This is very much our society today. It is almost jarring to consider that this short story was written in the 60s, far before the invention of Bluetooth (which is very much like the “handicapper” which fits in George’s ear and releases sounds every other minute). The bags of birdshot that most citizens wear come at a price; if one removes a pellet from the bag, they receive two years in prison and are fined two thousand dollars. George compares this “cheating” to that of the competitive, savage nature of the “Dark Ages”, where one competed another, as we do today.…

    Poetry: Poem Analysis

The works we studied within Creative Writing were all helpful in creating my own works to submit to the class. Throughout all of the reading, many of the works inspired me in different ways, whether it was short story plot ideas or word usage in the poems. While crafting my work for the final portfolio, I reviewed many of the poems from our poetry packet in an effort to find inspiration and to create new interesting images. I took the most inspiration for my formal poem, which I found most difficult to write. One of the poems that was most useful to me was Jilly Dybka’s “Memphis, 1976.” Dybka’s poem follows the sestina form; I also wrote my last poem in this form, so it helped to follow the form by looking at her poem as an example. Dybka’s…

The exploration and exploitation of that area generally west of the Mississippi, truly makes for great human history. Often, however, myth’s and other tales creep into Old West history causing confusion and chaos about the reality of it all. Mythological characters such as the heroic figure of a cowboy and the villains Wild Bill and Calamity Jane are merely a mirage to the Old West’s real perception of people. Both heroic and villain characters base upon the Old West’s society of people who stood and fought till the end. In reality of the Old West Native Americans, the loss of the bison and growth of white settlement drastically affected the lives of the Native Americans living in the West. In the conflicts that resulted, the Indians, spite occasional victories, seemed doomed to defeat by the greater numbers of settlers and the military force of the U.S. government. By the 1880s, most Indians had been confined to reservations, often in areas of the West that appeared least desirable to white settlers.
