The Wildfire: The Cause Of Fire In California

A California wildfire killed one person and destroyed more homes on September 19th. A fire started Saturday in California’s Carmel Valley. Two communities are under evacuation. “So far the fire has burned 1,200 acres and only 10% of it is contained, according to the state wildfire fighting agency, CalFire,” This weekend another fatality occurred due to the fires in California and another ten homes burned. Three other deaths have occurred this summer due to the large multitude of the wildfires. “The American West has seen one of its worst fire seasons this year, burning through a particularly large area of the landscape, according to the National Interagency Fire Center. Nearly 9 million acres have gone up in flames so far this year compared
with close to 3 million over the same period in 2014,” The increase in the number of fires is due to the on-going droughts that have been present in California for the last couple years. These fires have impacted the U.S. in a number of ways. The combination of the California droughts and fires are making a huge impact. It is changing ecosystems around California, which could have a chain-like impact on animals and nature. It is also spreading a feeling of uneasiness across the population. People are dying in their homes, one of the few places they feel safe. In recent days, the fires have extended to wine vineyards. If large portions of the grapes are destroyed the US’s wine industry could be diminished into nothing. A solution to this issue could be to have firefighters continue their exhausting effort into stopping these fires. This summer has been one of the busiest for firefighters in the northwest. They have been nonstop working to stop the fires. I believe California needs to continue what they have been doing all summer and hope for a break from the madness.
