In Homer’s book The Iliad, Homer tells the story of the Trojan War with Achilles, the best Greek warrior. However, Achilles does not like Agamemnon, the king of Mycenae, because he took Briseis (Briseis was a woman that Achilles had received as a war prize). This is the reason why Achilles was raged at Agamemnon. In a rage, Achilles wants to kill all of the Trojans, especially Hector, the best Trojan warrior. Patroclus, Achilles’ best friend goes out to the battle field as Achilles (wearing his armor), trying to kill Hector but instead Hector kills Patroclus thinking he has killed Achilles. When Achilles finds out about this, he is very mad and goes out to kill Hector himself. When he kills Hector, he is very arrogant about it. Only after this happens does Achilles get Briseis back from Agamemnon.…

As I have said Achilles was dishonored by Agamemnon. Agamemnon was the commander-in-chief of the Achaean (Greek) armies at Troy, and also the king of Troy. So Agamemnon had taken a woman named Chryseis as his slave. Her father Chryses, a priest of Apollo, begged Agamemnon to return her to him. Agamemnon refused and her father prayed to Apollo to help him get his daughter back. Apollo sent a plague amongst the Greeks. The prophet Calchas correctly determined the source of the troubles but would not speak unless Achilles vowed to protect him. Achilles said that he will protect him as long as he is alive and he would not let anyone harm him if he tells him the truth. So Calchas declared Chryseis must be returned to her father. Agamemnon consented, but then commanded that Achilles' battle prize Briseis be brought to replace Chryseis. Angry at the dishonor and at the urging of Thetis, Achilles refused to fight or lead his troops alongside the other Greek forces. She was something he had fought for, and Agamemnon just told him to give it up, while he could've done so himself too.…

Odysseus uses this knowledge against his opponents, defeating many of them and finding his way back home. Achilles does not honor this code. Making him look like a bad person. But some people may feel that he is just acting revenge for his fallen friend. The Iliad begins with Chryses, a prophet of Apollo, coming to a Greek camp and offering valuable “penalty tokens” requesting the return of his daughter who the Greeks had captured in a raid. Because Agamemnon believed she was rightfully his, he refused. Most of his fellow Greeks wanted him to return her in order to avoid conflict. In order to preserve his time (honor, respect, value), Agamemnon brings danger to them all. Chryses prays to Apollo and a plague is released upon the Achaeans. Achilles, a basileus in the Greek army, suggests seeking insight from the prophet Calchas. Upon doing so all are informed that Agamemnon is responsible for the plague because he refused to return his geras (prize), the daughter of Chryses.…

Achilles is considered immortal, but has many features that make him human. In the epic poem Iliad, written by Homer, Achilles is known to be strong and courageous; he leaves his family to fight in the war against the Trojans. Achilles is a mighty warrior that shows feelings and emotions that are human. Although Achilles may exhibit heartless and cruel tendencies like the way he killed Hector showing virtually no feelings, he is ultimately a sympathetic character as he feels taken advantage of, shows remorse, and exemplifies compassion.…

n the movie it's stated that Agamemnon brought the kings together for this war, which really isn't true. Helen had many powerful suitors and her father was too afraid to pick one of them for her husband in fear of offending the others. Odysseus convinced him to make a contract with the other suitors that made them promise that should anything happen to Helen, the other kings would assist in getting her back. When Paris kidnapped Helen from Menelaus, they were bound to honor their promise and help to return her. When Paris was born, it was predicted that he would be the downfall of Troy, so he was sent into the mountains without any knowledge of who he really was. Aphrodite was the one who promised him the most beautiful woman in the world and started the Trojan War.…
