The Wolf of Wall Street

The Wolf of Wall Street is a black comedy movie directed by Martin Scorsese, based on a true story of a man who makes millions. Leonardo DiCaprio plays Jordan Belfort, a penny stockbroker who wants to make a lot of money. He started a company, Strafford Oakmont. He starts small and starts ripping people off because of the way he trains people. He makes it to Wall Street, where the biggest stock market deals happen. They start to get a lot of attention because of how quick their success is. With fame and money come drugs. Belfort does a lot of cocaine to stay on the edge of things and keep up with his competition. They throw a bunch of parties with their staff with all their money they are making. He makes it onto Forbes magazine, and that’s how the feds find out about him. He tries to cover up his scams and make it not look so obvious for the feds, but starts to take the right approach and moves his money to a European bank. The feds find out about him and he has to make a decision if he wants to retire from his company and go to jail, and of course, because he’s insane, he keeps the company going and it goes under. The director made this movie was to catch the viewer’s eye with a true story. It was very interesting to watch because of all of the parenphena going on through out the movie. The director produced this in a way of everything being very precise but at the same time giving it a Hollywood twist. All of the lighting, soundtrack and imagery are on spot and having Leonardo play the role of Mr. Belfort was excellent casting. It felt as though the movie had more than one climax as it as so exciting.
The director told an interesting story. The story itself is crazy because it was real and it was done realistic. It is hard to believe that something like that could happen nowadays with all the surveillance. The actors did a good job, Leonardo DiCaprio, did a really superior job in his role. The dry humor, the parties, and

When I saw the cover of this movie I thought that I would not like it at all because it looked like an old movie and I really don't like the black and white style. Watching it surprised me a lot. I was very moved and touched by the actual characters and the moral of the story. Knowing that this was not a fictional movie made it that much harder to not get emotional. There where many issues addressed in this movie with the Mexican-American mine workers.…

From just a structure and story standpoint, I loved the unpredictability of the movie. It’s rare that I find I have no idea where a movie is going, but that was the case here. The movie and the book Like Water for Chocolate are both well written. I enjoyed the book because it had a different layout than the other books we have read thus far. The film was an asset to see because it followed the book so well that it gave you more ideas about things that you might not have totally understood while reading it. This is the first Spanish movie that has had such a positive effect on the book which makes the movie that much more amazing.…

All in all, I have no criticism for the film. In fact, I believe this film is such that it could be expanded upon to create a full-length feature or at least a more substantial film. But of coure, that requires time and resources that the filmmakers may not have at their disposal. Both the joy and agony of indie films. Phenomenal stories without the restrictions of the studios but also without the funding of the studios.…

Gordon Gekko, who played in the (1987) film as the antagonist, portrayed a self-interested egomaniac, only concerned with obtaining wealth. He preyed on young stockbrokers, conning them into his dirty insider trading schemes . On the other hand we have Frank Cowperwood who was a Robber Baron in the novel The Financier (2008). I think he was about riches and control. Both of these businessmen thrive off of control, and they enjoy excessive money; both control and money bring them the power necessary to maintain their unethical insider trading These men will experience a life of riches and confinement in period in their life.…

Jordan Belfort is commonly known as “The Wolf of Wall Street” simply due to the fact that within six years, he rose from an entry level apprentice at a brokerage house to the founder of Stratton Oakmont Investment Firm. Much like myself, Jordan strived to become successful and nothing was going to stop him. Throughout his journey to the top, he was constantly making sacrifices for many other people in his life, which quickly led to manipulation, but it was never his intention to harm any of them. “I got greedy.... Greed is not good. Ambition is good, passion is good. Passion prospers. My goal is to give more than I get, that’s a sustainable form of success....” (Biography.com). Belfort used proper judgment to take the life-changing sacrifice to protect his company and fellow co-workers. This occurred when he made a plea deal with the SEC to…

    Wall Street Movie Essay

The 1987 film, Wall Street, directed by Oliver Stone starring Charlie Sheen and Michael Douglas, is the story about a naïve Wall Street broker who desperately wants to make it big on Wall Street. But Bud Fox played by Charlie Sheen soon finds after being mentored by the Wall Street giant, Gordon Gekko, played by Michael Douglas, that being the best requires a lot more than he expected. A reoccurring theme that Stone threaded throughout the film was greed. Stone uses Gordon Gekko as a vehicle to symbolize greed, corruption, abuse of power, and the evil in society. In one of the rising action scenes in the movie, Gekko gives a speech about how greed is good and how greed is essential to making America a successful country. As a viewer what resonated with me the most was the statement “greed is good”, which is really thought provoking because greed is a subjective word, what one perceives as greedy may not be greedy to someone else. The dictionary’s definition of greed states that it is an excessive desire especially for wealth and possesions, which is ambiguous because what is considered excessive depends on one’s perception. Greed’s true definition has to be established by oneself, based on character, scruples, and moral boundaries. When one crosses those boundaries, like betraying loved ones for success or the willingness to exploit and destroy the lives of others for money, then that is when one can be considered greedy. Bud Fox allowed money to stand in the way of what was most important, his family. He ended up being used by Gekko and sent to jail for insider trading. Stone illustrated through Bud Fox that actions have consequences regardless if they are good or bad and that what one does in life does matter, even if the consequences are not immediate.…

Throughout the film I gained respect for the producing team and supporting cast. Though they were not the main feature, Marini showed behind the scene clips during production that displayed just how vital and collaborative they were in making the film. In addition, the director noted that the entire production lasted four years. I was personally unaware that a film required that level of time. I also believe this fact is often overlooked by society. Films are a major part of pop culture, though to many they are seen as frivolous and for entertainment purposes only.…
