Humphrey is the main character of this book. Humphrey is the class hamster in Room 26 in Longfellow School. He used to go home with the substitute teacher Ms. Mac. He was heartbroken when Ms. Mac left Longfellow School to teach in Brazil. Mrs. Brisbane, the classroom's permanent teacher, has returned. She does not want to take Humphrey home, because she has to take care of her husband. Humphrey have to stayed in the class every night.Mrs. Brisbane and the principle decide to let Humphrey stay home with a student each week. Sayeh is the only one who can speak English at her family, and it’s her second language. Sayeh , “Thank you, Humphrey,” Sayeh told Humphrey, “ My mom says she’s ready to go to English class now. But I wish you were the teacher.” Humphrey helped to solve the problem of Sayeh’s family. When Humphrey Stayed with A.J., he founded out the TV and radio were very loud in A.J.’s house. He unplug the TV, and Mr.Thomas thought the TV was broke. Humphrey told A.J, “We played cards and board games and word games.” A.J.’s family enjoyed play card game after TV was “broke”. When Ms. Mac visit the Room 26, she brought the gift from Brazil. Humphrey was happy to see her again. He couldn’t go home with her anymore because he need to solve the problems for other students
