As she walking to class, something caught her attention, the shore outside. She went outside, they were allowed to go outside without permission. She walked outside and she could feel the breeze going towards her and she could feel the warmness of the sun reflecting on top of her head. She saw how the waves were moving in a steady motion and it splashing on top of the soft sand. She could hear the palm trees moving gently.…
She struggles against the ripping force of the ocean current. Her arms are quickly tiring from swimming against it. She relaxes, letting her muscles fall limp. Within seconds, she is pushed out to sea. The people on the beach are so small, little tiny ants against a white sand backdrop. The tall condo skyscrapers are now tiny Lego buildings. The kids hollering and music blasting on the beach is faded like a distant memory. She will die out here, she’s sure of it. Her daughter won’t have a mother’s hand to hold when learning to walk. Her husband will be left a widower, forever broken by the loss of his love. She closes her eyes and accepts her fate as she drifts further out to sea. She floats for a long while, the salinity in the water steadily…
Despite the attempts of the other guests to teach her, she is still unable to swim. Suddenly, she feels empowered and steps into the water, earning surprised applause from her onlookers. She swims out alone, for the first time truly feeling a sense of control over her body and soul. She becomes reckless and wants to swim out “where no woman had swum before,” and she scolds herself for discovering the simplicity of this act after so much time spent “splashing about like a baby!” When she looks back to the shore, however, she realizes how far she has gone and worries that she will perish from not having the strength to make it back on her own. When she arrives back on shore, she immediately dresses in the bathhouse and starts to walk home alone, despite the attempts of her husband and the other guests to retain…
Once there was a poor man. He was very happy, but could not afford the house of his dreams. Each day he walked down the beach, looking at the frothy, white waves slapping against the beach, the fish leaping out of the water, and the seagulls floating around him waiting for a careless person to drop a crumb. He loved walking down the sandy beach. But what he enjoyed most was the rainbow of houses stretched down the beach. They weren’t big, they weren’t small. But he loved the way their colors looked next to each other. The dark blue standing next to the vibrant pink. He would see the owners looking out from their balconies, watching him. He did this day after day and nothing ever changed.…
Lily got up at 10:00 am like she does every morning during the summer. Then she got ready to go to the beach and surf. When she got there she went out in the ocean. When she first got out she saw a great wave, it was not too big but not too small. She then rode it into shore. Everything was going great until the waves started getting rough.…
Almost within minutes it seemed he had arrived at Mission Beach. The sun was pretty much sky high on this early September day. He stood for a while gazing in the direction of the sand and sea. His hands were calmly by his sides. Noticing that the sun was too bright for his eyes, he slowly, with coolness about him, slid his sunglasses down from atop his head to the level of his eyes. The sunglasses were black and of a surfer brand style. Johnny could now see the details of what was happening upon the beach without squinting his eyes and forehead. This was a beach, he noticed, with diverse persons in attendance. Specifically he noticed an elderly couple walking along the sidewalk of the beach hand-in-hand, and both their hair colors were as white as…
The following passage is a recollection of events from a sniper incident that happened on 3 March 2007. I was assigned to D Co 1-8 cav, and we were located in Northern Baghdad. I will go over the sequence of events, also the outcome of the situation. I will also go over the lessons learned from what transpired that day. I will conclude the Passage with a brief description of all that was gone over in the PEM.…
One of the worst days in modern American history is September 11,2001. That day was a horrific day of events. On that day the leader of Al-Qaeda Osama Bin Laden ordered the attack on the Twin Towers in downtown Manhattan. This attack was the worst attack in history. When the towers came down it killed almost 3 thousand people. Ever since I was young I have always had a great deal of respect for our service men and women. I come from a military background. Both of my grandpas were in the military. When the attacks on 9/11/01 happened and I got older and came to understand more about what happened I became infuriated about it. I became infuriated that thousands of innocent people died at the hands of some gutless bastard who just wanted to kill Americans just because they were a American. Being an American is everything to me. It means that I have freedoms that other people are not fortunate enough to have. When something happens to my…
The sky had darkened and it was getting harder to see. Anchoring the last boat, I tied one more knot to be sure it wouldn’t be pushed over from the wind and I rushed to the shed. The kids weren’t scared, although some of the younger ones were worried. “It’s okay guys,” I told them with a smile. My friend Janice told them they did great getting back as quickly as they did and chatted with them. I peeked out from a slant in the wood wall and saw a burst of sunlight break through a covering of clouds. The rain slowly turned to a drizzle before the shining sun soaked up the puddles. Today everyone got back safely, and I knew everything would turn out fine if you payed attention to…
My mind was overwhelmed by the drastic change in surroundings I was experiencing. My delicate lips were being run-down by the dry and overwhelming heat of California. The sun was also constantly beating against my skin which gave it an amazing tan. Even though I was used to heat, I was not accustomed to such dry conditions that California had set for me. Yet the view that my eyes glazed upon was something I have never witnessed before. The clashing of the midnight blue waves against the grainy sand and the velvet sun…
As we approach the beach, the first thing I notice is the sky. As I look into the cloudless, cerulean blue sky and see the flawlessness of life; in the distance, rolling clear-blue waves crash into each other with such force as that of football players. The sky is breathtaking along with the sounds of the waves and the tide washing onto the shore. The water reminds me of crystals shimmering in the water with the sun reflecting off of it. As the sun sets, the sky turns into a pink hue with a bright orange sun going down into the horizon.…
A day that I wish I hadn’t experienced was October 28, 2005. On that day, I had to have surgery on my palate. The surgeon cut open the top of my mouth and lengthened it a half an inch which is called a z-plasty. I had the surgery because when I was younger I had a clarity problem with my speech.…
As I walk down the narrow, brown, rickety bridge that leads to the ocean my heart begins to race in anticipation of reaching the fascinating sight. I’m suddenly surrounded by sand that is white and pure as snow. I walk at a turtle’s speed absorbing this overwhelming beauty that encircles me. The sky is the brightest blue I’ve ever seen, so bright that it almost seems as if it is from an animated movie and not real life itself. Fluffy clumps of clouds that were covering the sky before slowly fade away into thin air and the crystal clear waves sparkle like diamonds. The water is never-ending. I see heaps of seagulls flying around the sky, white and grey and full of spirit. As a gust of wind runs through my long, dark, brown hair I look to the right to see two elegant dolphins leap from the deep blue sea and dive back in as if saying hello to the gorgeous, heavenly day.…
Have you ever had the feeling of yearning to gain something into your possession so desperately? Well, I had. It would probably be best to describe it as the dearest wish that any typical girl my age could ever had: the trendiest, most portable, and most recently released gadget on the market featuring the most advanced technology a phone could possibly ever been designed with in mankind’s history – the extremely popular iPhone 5s.…
It’s true everybody has a bad day no matter what lifestyle you live or what part of the world you are in, it is just something that everyone has to deal with. I was completely fine with that fact until my bad day came out of nowhere and practically slapped me right across the face due to many events that occurred to me on this depressing day.…
