Theater Review What is the theatre about? Why do millions of people around the world go to the theatre to enjoy what the greatest playwrights and actors left behind in history? Theatre applies to our by making us feel and experience what we would not otherwise see in our busy lives. Theatre is a tool for intellectual enrichment. It enriches our mind it feeds our brain with pleasure and makes us think about the characters we see on the stage. One way or another theatre is a great intellectual experience. Just recently my friends and I attended to the theater to watch a play called “Twelve Angry Men”. As we had already read about it and we already were familiar with all the characters, honestly, it did not sound that interesting to me. 12 men arguing about a trial, that I was already familiar with, how is that a great theater? Although I was not too excited about the play, I decided to go. At 7:45 on a Saturday night, my friends and I, in our theater finery, walked up to the 1924 playhouse amid a primarily adult audience. It was a cool November evening and patrons lingered in the courtyard under strings of lights sipping wine, champagne, and coffee, waiting for the play to start. When they rang the bell, the historic theater filled up quickly from orchestra to balcony. The set itself looked as dull as I thought the play might be: conference table, 12 chairs, benches, water and coffee carafes, steel vented walls, office lights, a glass door. But I was wrong, dreadfully wrong! From the Pasadena Playhouse website and the “Behind the scenes” video I knew that the director, Sheldon Epps, had changed the script from the original play a bit. He’d also cast 6 of the jurors with white actors, and 6 with actors of color. He felt the play, despite being written in 1955, was “extraordinarily timely.” Current court cases had been “affected by racial issues” and he felt the theatre
