Located on 250 West 40th Street is the Tony award winning Drama Book Shop. Its collection is a theatre kid’s heaven, it contains plays, scores, cast albums, everything you can imagine. mics are the perfect way to unwind, whether you are a performer or an observer it is a great way to spend your Monday. On Mondays at 7pm at The Harp Bar located on 729 3rd Avenue, Polly’s Follies transpires. Each open mic has a featured spotlight performer who is the major event of the night. Some upcoming spotlights for this summer are on June 13th Justin Randolph in the spotlight, on June 20th Broadway’s Mike Longo in the spotlight, and on June 27th Julia DeSimone in the spotlight. So come, enjoy, and sing!
4. NYMF- For decades the New York Musical Festival has been a space for aspiring playwrights to showcase their work. 26 shows that started at NYMF have transferred off-Broadway and 3 have transferred to Broadway including the Tony Award Winning show Next To Normal. This year’s festival is from July 11 to August 7 and cost is ranging from $119 to $559. By attending you are part of the beginning of shows that could potentially be a new Broadway blockbuster.
5. Berkshire Theatre Group- Every summer vacation can be completed with a trip up to the mountains. And what is better than seeing professional theatre in such a beautiful environment. This summer features numerous iconic shows such as Fiorello and Little Shop of Horrors featuring Broadway stars like Kate Baldwin and Lindsay Nicole Chambers. It’s located in the quaint city of Pittsfield and has many cute towns surrounding it, making it the perfect getaway.

Shakespeare in the Park- Imagine sitting in central park on a beautiful summer night whilst being entertained by exceptional actors. In pasts year performers have included notable names such as Al Pacino, Morgan Freeman, and Meryl Streep. Shakespeare in the Park is a famous event that occurs every summer in NYC and has spread too many other places through the years. The shows are free, you get your seat by waiting outside the Delacorte Theatre. This summer’s shows include Taming of the Shrew ,and Troilus and Cressida.
7. Broadway in Bryant Park- Starting on July 7th there will be a weekly concert known as Broadway in Bryant Park! It includes numerous performances by some of the most popular shows on Broadway! It is from 12:30 to 1:30 on the main lawn in Bryant Park! So come stop by if you have the time and enjoy the fabulous Talent of Broadway's finest actors. Currently specific shows performing at Bryant Park are not clarified but if you check up on bryantpark.org you will see updates at the end of
June.
8. Ham 4 Ham-Anyone who's anyone has heard of the Broadway Smash Hit Hamilton. Now imagine having a front-row seat to Hamilton without paying a fortune. Well you have two possibilities, on Wednesdays at 12:30 p.m. there is a great event that occurs right outside the Richard Rodgers Theatre. It is known as Ham 4 Ham. Ham 4 Ham is generally a ticket lottery, and if you win you will get to see Hamilton front row for just $10. Which is significant because Hamilton is on the $10. But as a special treat on Wednesdays there is also a free Ham 4 Ham show, past performances have been by Mayor Bill de Blasio and Patti LuPone. You never know who you may see. So take the chance of winning the lottery and head down to the Richard Rodgers Theatre!
9. Closing Shows- One of the toughest things about being involved with the theater is when remarkable show have to close. To get to Broadway you have to be lucky and many people dream of working on Broadway, so when a show is not making as much money they close even if they were spectacular. This summer many shows are closing including Blackbird, The King and I, She Loves Me, and Finding Neverland. Time is running out and tickets are selling fast so go on any ticket selling network and buy tickets soon!
10. Opening shows - There's nothing more exciting than seeing a show open on Broadway. The excitement of opening night and watching Broadway debuts happen. And wishing that maybe one day that could be you. This summer two great shows are opening. Those shows are Motown the Musical and Cats. Motown is a jukebox musical featuring songs from The Jackson 5, Gladys Knight and many other performers that will sound familiar to your ear and may pull strings on your heart. And Cats is an iconic musical written by Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber which features songs such as Jellicle Cats and Memory. Go see these shows and be there for the beginning of maybe a new long-running musical production!
